l The Foundation Uf Every, State Is Math is a required subject for all students. In seventh grade, students take high, average, or basic math. Geometry, algebra, and basic math are ninth grade courses, 1 1 English is a required subject which is divided into high, average and low at all grade levels. Ninth grade students with a recommendation have the op- portunity to substitute journalism for English. E l This year a change took place in the curriculum of the Science Department. Ninth graders are now required tc take a full year of science, as opposed to the one semester formerly required, Biology and chemistry are studied by the ninth graders. Seventh and eighth grade students are required to take science for one semester. Eighth graders study geology and astronomy while anatomy and cell struc- ture are studied by seventh graders. i I l I

I S The Education Cf Its Youth I Diogenes i History is the study of all that was, is, and .will be. History is divided into three categories. Western European history is covered in seventh grade. United States history and the Constitution are studied in the eighth grade. In the ninth grade, Ancient to Modern history is covered. ,. - LLL, Spanish is offered at all grade levels. In the seventh grade, students take either Conversational Spanish, a semester course, or Spanish IA, which is a year course. Eighth and ninth grade students have a choice of any three, depending on their previous knowledge of Spanish. French and German are languages offered only to eighth and ninth graders. Students have a choice between French IA or IB and German IA or IB.
