The tune has come for the Semor Class of 1948 to b1d farewell to Follansbee
l'l1gh School the school we love so well As we look forward we are proud that we have
crossed the first m1le stone 1n hfe but vu h that feelmg vxe also haxe one of regret as we
r member the f11endsh1ps good tlmes and act1v1t1es that must end vuth graduat1on
As Senlors we see how much s hool has meant to Us and what a necess1ty 1t IS 1n l1fe
Th1nk1ng back to the t1me vxe entered school as frrst graders the road looked
hard and endless but t1me passed qulckly and then came the thr1ll of enter1ng Follans

assembly program for be1t1ng Wellsburg and the hrst Elghth Trade prom ex er to be held
1n the h1gh school
We then exper1enced the thr1ll of be1ng part of Senlor l'l1gh even though we
were t1m1d underclassmen The class was also enlarged at th1s t1me by students from
St Anthony s parochlal school As sophomores the year xx as hlled Vwlth nevs HCQUHIH

Exc1tement hlled our jumor year vtlth the play Str1ctly Formal the l-lallo
ween carn1val and the Jumor Senlor prom 1U the Pme Room at Cglebay Park School
bells sounded and we became what we had dreamed of for eleven years Semorsll'
At last we know what If was l1ke to be looked upon as upperclassmen and to set the
examples for others Th1S was the most ex1t1ng year of all from the hrst day unt1l we
walked across the stage to recene the award we have worked twelve years to ICCCIVE
our d1plomas" Th1s year was h1ghl1ghted by the exchange of name cards and class
plcturcs proms and our class play We Shook the Fannly Tree We also left a l1V1Hg
memor1al for the stadxum we are proud to say was bu1lt rn our last year of school Th1rteen
athletes ended thelr football career as Follansbee hared w1th St Claxrsvllle the C V A C
champ1onsh1p Thrs was one of the most successful years rn sports rn the hxstory of the
school Prctures of other act1v1t1es of th1s class can be found rn varrous parts of the book

Some twenty years ago, under the direction of XVilliam Woodhouse. the first
Follanshee High School hand was introduced to the students and the townspeople. Since
then it has hecome a standard part of our high school life.
This year the hand is under the direction of Charles W. Shackleford. an amhif
tious young war veteran. Assisting him is the student director, Sanders Latimer. The
hand's activities this year included halfftime performances at foothall games, taking part
in Christmas parades in Weirton and Wheelingg playing for the Gay Nineties Revue
and Senior Play: and participation in the district hand festival at Weirton.
After many weeks of anxious waiting, the new hand uniforms arrived. They
were received just in time for the hand festival. At the time of puhlication, the results
of the festival are not known, hut we can he sure that the Follanshee High School hand
will make a favorahle showing, then and in the future.
