CLASS POEM
WE VE CROSSED THE BAY, THE OCEAN LIES AHEAD'
We've crossed the bay, our iourney's done,
ln love united, in heart ever one.
How short seems the way when looked back upon
Proud are our thoughts at the honors won,
Hope shines before us, a glorious ray,
To guide our lives beyond the bay
The way seemed long o er which we ve come
Our ambitions this far to attain
Though rough and uncertain at seemed to some
More precious the coveted honor gained
But whether the bay was muddy or clear
Each mile of the way we ll hold most dear
We ve learned our lessons these happy years
Some of toll and doubt and youthful schemes
Of untold loys and sickening fears
But we II cherish them all in future dreams
And the links we ve welded in friendship s chain
Shall never by time be cut in twain
Farewell dear Foley Hugh, dear teachers too
Should the future hold honor and fame for us
The praise and glory belong to you,
Who have strived so hard to make it thus
Now, with God as our Captain we have no dread
We ve crossed the bay the ocean lies ahead'

FOLEY BAND
Under the inspiring direction of Lonnie Owen, the Foley
High School Band sprang up like magic! The Foley High Band
is now a snappy 50-piece marching unit. The band put on
wonderful performances at the halves of all the football games.
Also, it marched and played during Mardi Gras in Mobile, and
gave several concerts. The band is certainly an outstanding
example of a greater Foley High'

Beech breaks through the Bay Minette line!
FOLEY vs. SILAS
41 O
The following week the Lions traveled up to
Silas, and once again came home with a victory
under their belt. Norris Nelson again led the
scoring parade with two touchdowns, while W.
L. Smith, Gene Underwood, Rex Beech, and
Vance Parks tallied once each. This game
ended more like a track meet than a football
game.
FOLEY vs. MONROEVILLE
39 O
Once again the Lions traveled a long distance
and again came home victorious. The two teams
battled on even terms the first half with the
Lions scoring once. In the second half the Lions
ran wild, and with hard, bonerattling blocking
in front of speedy backs, scored five touchdowns.
Nelson again led the scorers with two tallies,
FOLEY vs. ROBERTSDALE
30 O
The Lions met the Bears in Robertsdale and
won their fifth consecutive game. "Foots"
Willis and Lyle Klug scored two touchdowns
each and Rex Beech scored on a long run once.
The Lions were a little too overconfident but
came out of it very well.
FOLEY vs. ATMORE
7 21
while Holmes, Beech, Underwood, and Willis
scored once each.
FOLEY vs. FLOMATON
32 0
This was the Lion's first home game, and
they made an impressive appearance. Nelson once
more was the leading scorer with two T.D.'s.
Smith, Beech, and Parks scored once each. James
was outstanding at his guard position. The
whole line played exceptionally well.
Atmore! - the big game!
The Lions played the Blue Devils on even
terms, but they did not seem to have the scoring
punch when the opportunities came. The Blue
Devils scored first after being held in check the
first quarter and most of the second. The half
ended with Atmore leading 7 to 0. Early in the
second half, Atmore scored again by a wide
sweep around right end. The Lions weren't to be
denied, however, and came back by scoring
on a pass from Parks to Willis. Avinger drop-
kicked the extra point. The Blue Devils squeezed
over one more tally in the final quarter. Atmore
was seeking, revenge for last year's defeat from
Foley, 7 to O,
Lion's Captains Avinger and Holmes meet Tiger's Captain
Traywick on Armistice Day.

FOLEY vs. W. S. NEAL
48 0
This was FoIey's second home game and they
really showed a lot of fight and spirit in downing
W. S. Neal of Brewton. Everyone got to play in
this game. W. L. Smith and Gene Underwood
scored twice each while Nelson, Parks, and
Perce scored once. Harold Avinger drop-kicked.

FOLEY vs. BAY MINETTE
I4 7
Armistice day is here, and while the bands
are blaring and everyone is celebrating, the
football team is taking it easy getting ready for
the big game in the afternoon. The Lions were
favored by three touchdowns, but had a hard
time defeating the fighting Tigers of Bay Minette
by the score of I4 to 7. Back Nelson and end
Willis each tallied once to put the game in the
bag for Foley.
FOLEY vs. FAIRHOP E
I2 I3
County championship at stake! Fairhope
started off with a lot of power scoring twice in
the first half and one extra point which proved
to be the difference. The Lions scored twice in
the last half, but were unable to make either
attempt at the extra point. Holmes and Nelson
both scored once.
SPIRIT! SPIRIT! SPIRIT!
FOLEY vs. sEMMEs TECH
y I9 6
Little Rex Beech led the Lions to a I9-6
victory in it's last game of the season by scoring
all three touchdowns. Semmes Tech had a hustl-
ing but dutfought team. So ends a Iong-to-be-
remembered season of the Lions of Fole High.
The inspiring leadership of coach Bilil Mere-
dith 'will be remembered by every member of the
team.

Coach Tommy Robinson was faced with the problem of building a smooth- 0
operating team from o bunch of green boys. The team was composed completely Q
of underclassmen who, although losing often, fought every inch of the way.
Although this year was a discouraging one, the .experience gained during this
season will show itself next year-a year for which there are good prospects.
