iAwarding of diplomas to a class-
of 28 students Monday night brought
local high school activities to a close 5
after a successful scholastic year and -
a ,thoroughly enjoyable commence-3
fment, which began Friday with a
class night presentation which featur-3
ed a three-act play, "Pirate's Gold".:
Senior vesper services on Sunday
night again filled the large auditor-
ium of the high school, with the
baccalaureate sermon being delivered -

by the Rev. William H. Evans, pastor ,
of the Baptist church. -
The commencement exercise Mon-
day night began as the processional e
march was played by the Lundberg 3
orchestra, followed by invocation by 4
the Rev. G. I". Jolmson, Presbyterian
pastor. Virginia Lunsford very ably
presented the salutatory address, her 9
topic being "Intangible Values ofii
Life". i
The theme of the commencementl
was "Three Hundred Years of Second- L
ary Education", with addresses on the
subject by Garvis NVaflters, Esther'
McCann and Roland Walker. The
valedictory, "Good Work Brings the
Greatest Happiness," was delivered i
by Louis Helton. .

Members of the class were beauti-
fully dressed, the girls wearing white
dresses and carrying bouquets of red
roses, while the boys wore blue coats
with white trousers.
'Scholarship medal presented by the
Farmers Kr Muchants Bank, went to
lidna Ard whose average was 97.82.
Honorable mention went to Thelma
Pilgrim whose average was U63 An-
thony Qutc average 91147, and Shelby
Walters 06 22
