I think my mother was a little romantic when I 'was born, laughs the 96-year-old Lancelot. I was married once for 10 years, before I was married this time. His first wife died after 10 years, leaving him with an infant son and two small daughters. The oldest is now 77. '- 1 . 7 Each one of us feels we couldn't do without the other, Lancelot says. He credits his second wife for the success of their marriage. Well, she's just mighty sweet, she's mighty nice, is all I can say. , Ludie Hughes still remembers that he was just about the most handsome man she'd ever seen, when at 17 she ,met him - and thought he was his unmarried brother, Randall. Lancelot was quite happily married and the father of three when he first waitedion Ludie at his father's store in Ponce De Leon. It was awhile before she realiz- ' e. I was so disappointed. He was the best-looking man. Here I thought I had me a beau, Ludie says. The mistake was cleared up, though, and another summer later, after Lancelot's first wife had died, they were married. These days, they live a quiet life. For years Lancelotused to bring Ludie' her morning coffee. and breakfast in bed, he said. Now because he is legally blind, Ludie does most of the caring for him and often sits and reads to him. In their minds, they're still see- ing the faces they looked at 67 years ago in that little store in Ponce De Leon.
