The story took place in Alabama. Brack Weaver was held in the Birmingham Jail, awaiting trial for the murder of Thomas Bouche. Brack escaped from the jail before the day of his death to return to his true love, Jennie. He reassured himself that Jennie still loved him even though he had killed Bouche, Brack then returned to the jail and death.
