SCHOOL BOARD Barbara Page, President Roger Stinnett, Beytte Armistead, and Jim Robertson. X Walter Douglas Jr., passes away-He served on the F. W. School Board for 45 years. Walter Douglas Jr. was a record setter but didn't realize his success until last year. He was the recipient of an award for contributions to academic excellence in public schooling. The awards program described him as having the longest tenure of any school board president in the United States. Mr. Douglas served on the school board for 45 years. For 43 of those years he had served as president. When he first served on the school board the district had only seventy nine students and one building to house all I2 grades. His achievements included hiring 300 teachers and dividing the district into four elementary schools, one junior high, one senior high school and one alter- native school. During his tenure on the school board his four children went through the Flowing Wells school system. Mr. Douglas reflected his leadership in a great many students, both past and present. They have all benefitted from him and will miss him greatly. We thank you for your leadership these past 45 years, Mr. Douglas. 84 Walter Douglas, Jr. 1910-1987 1
