OUR SUPERINTENDENT X 1 I One of the youngest Sup- erintendents in the state, George N. Smith, has built up an impressive record in the past years. Mr. Smith has attended the following colleges and universities: U. of Utah, Arizona State, Stanford Univ., U. of Southern Calif. , Colum- bia Univ. , and the U., of Arizona. An outstand- ing athlete and student leader in high school and college, he also re- ceived a scholastic award at the U. of Utah and a scholarship to Stanford U. while work ing on his Doctor's degree. After serving in the paratroops during World War Il, he be- came principal of Arlington Elementary GEORGE N- SMITH School, Buckeye, Arizona. In 1953 Mr. Smith came to Flowing Wells as Superintendent of the Elementary School. One year later he was instrumental in the establishment of Flowing Wells High School. In addition to his duties as Superintendent, he also served as Principal of the new high school until 1956 when he became full-time Superintendent of both districts. The third Superintendent from Arizona to be invited to the Annual Superintendents' Con- ference at Columbia University, George Smith has also served as a panel member and speaker at meetings and conventions of various educational groups. Mr. Smith has been so progressive in school administration that he is listed in Who's Who in theWest. We, the outgoing Seniors, feel highly privileged to have had the guidance of George N. Smith because he has been a friend as well as chief administrator.
