Senior Class History On September 5, 1952 a group of enthusiastic young men and women full of pep, vim and vigor — eager to please and comply with every rule of F. N. I. M. College. This, one of the largest Freshman Classes in the history of the College, embarked on its voyage of four years of storm and peaceful weather. Many problems confronted this class, as they have all other Freshman Classes. For this reason a considerable amount of thought had to be put into the election of capable class officers in order to carry forth the work of the class and at the same time, try to make it an interesting one. In the first class meeting, under the leadership of our advisors Mrs. Puryear and Dean Smith, the destinies of the class were put under the guiding hand of Willie Fisher, Presi- dent. Assisted by Leroy Alexander, Vice President, Catherine Brown, Secretary; Thomas Blue, Treasurer, and James Dupree, Chaplain. That year the class had the desire and evidently the ability to win everything. Enthusiasm ran high that year and has scarcely abated since. During this year we were instrumental in helping the sophomores in their victory of electing Miss Florida Normal. September, 1953-- Back to the old Alma Mater with more vim and vigor than was good for a class of Sophs , the uppermost thing in our minds was — what will the greenies look like this year, and be ready to groom this raw material . During our Sophomore year we gave a most successful play under the direction of Mrs. Puryear. Here Comes Charlie , we consider it our best presentation. The characters were, James Day, Alta Crosby, Arnold James, Milton Stewart, Lois Baker, Thelma Oxendine, Abraham Johnson, Betty Henderson, Thomas Brown, Hannah Bullock. We made Maeola Henderson Miss F. N. I. M. C. and reigned supreme in dramatics. During our Junior year we saw many changes take place in our class and many physical changes on the campus. On our return, the library was twice as large with an ultra-modern addition of a conference room, rest rooms and stacks. We could not believe it when we saw the lounge for women in Anderson Hall, but we had lost our class president and other faces; Fisher, Postell, Rose, Thomas Brown. With mingled feelings of gay and sadness-- we started our year of idealism . We realized that our losses had been compensated by the addition of such outstanding members to our class as Vannette Schank, Alice Anderson, Bessie Jones, Isabella Adams and Joseph Salley. Increasingly difficult studies and positions of responsibility in extra-curricular activities were claiming the attention of the class, but keeping its pledge to perpetuate the time-honored traditions jf the student body, the Junior-Senior Prom was dutifully sponsored. Funds were lacking as usual, but the spirit was strong, so the Social Committee gave theseniorsa big time on theeveningof May 19. 1955, with no qualms of inadequacy to mar the occasion. This year our class officers were: President, Arnold James; Vice President, James Day, Secretary, Thelma Oxendine; Treasurer, Thomas Blue; Miss F. N. I. M. C, Ida Logan. The campus really belonged to us this year! Not from the point of view of a braggart, but from the point of view of one who has earned it. During our stay we sent two queens to reign over F. N. I. M. College; and one to reign over May Day We gave two plays a prom and Class Night. As the time of commencement draws near the desire for something to remember you by becomes more pronounced; so we look forward to keeping the Arch year book through the years. There is apparent gayety on the campus, but beneath this there is a sad note which is occasioned by the fact that the class of ' 56 is poised with just the toe of commencement ' s boot needed to enlist it into the ranks of the alumni. So we come to the end of four short years. Years choked full of happenings, replete with happy memories and lasting friendships. The seeds of wisdom and spiritual freedom are duly sown and only the future can decide the extent of the harvest. Commencement, the beginning, is at hand. As we strive to live our lives to the fullest, we shall find consolation in knowing that we have behind us an Alma Mater in whose memory we find a spring of pleasure.
