J V's Iiave Seven WV1ns, One Loss This year, the JV football team was coached to seven Wins and one loss by Coaches Dan Turner and Cy Henry, All the members of the team were taught the fundamentals of the game during their freshman and sophomore years. During the entire season, Coach Turner and Coach Henry worked to improve the team in their ability to work together and to learn plays which would be of value in the next season. , 1-11- l, - l. -,A N' .-uvufgy' After having a stunning 10-1 record last ear and taking the State Championship, the ophers this year ran into trouble. It will be the end of what must be a dis- ppointing year. The Gophers were the eigning Class B State Champions at the eginning of the season but found that this ust wasn't their year to repeat. The Gophers opened the 1970 football eason with three straight losses. The first f these losses came at the hands ofRay by 6-12. Next came a 18-0 loss to arch rival oolidge and a 7-0 conference loss to Hay- en. Florence then traveled to Baboquivari or their first win of the season by a score f 51-0. Next came a 28-6 loss to the Tombstone Yellowjackets. Florence wanted to win a game very much and did so by defeating the Gilbert Tigers in a close 12-6 win. Trying to start a winning streak, Flor- ence then went on to defeat the Apache Junction Prospectors by a score of 18-6. Traveling to Benson the Gophers then saw their two-game winning streak end as the Bobcats scored a 14-6 victory over the defending Class B football champions. Ben- son scored in the second and third periods to take the victory. Florence scored in the final period on a one-yard run by fullback Terry Arndt.
