Varsity Places Second in Conference GUARDS: lst Row: Rusty Ortiz, Rex Neal, George Ortiz: 2nd Row: Tony Jimenez, Chester Cartwright Closing a tremendous season, the Gophers saw their chances for a state playoff berth disappear as they suffered two losses in the Class B Central Basketball District Tourna- ment in Benson. The Gophers were handed defeats by Ben- son 83-79 in the semi-final championship game and by Hayden 75-69 for the third spot consolation bracket. FORWARDS: lst Row: Frank Celaya, Eddie Ortega, Pat Henry: 2nd Row: jamie Angley Coached by John Borquez, the Gopher used many new plays which helped to wi important games during the season. He als instilled the winning attitude and confidenc in the mind of each player. Florence ended the season with a recor of 13 wins and 12 losses, and a second plac tie with Benson in the tough Class B Central Division.
