Huskies Cop 2nd In PPL “WORK HARD!” These words came to symbolize the 1978 Huskies. Each and every game was begun with the coach and team in a huddle shouting these words. Then the Huskies went to the court and showed what they meant. Through this kind of hard work, under new Head Coach John Merriam, the Huskies finished the season with a second place in the PPL tourney. With eight seniors and four juniors on the team, everyone played a key role this year. A different combination of players was successful in almost every game. The Huskies strength was in its offensive strategy. The team’s height made rebounding a weakness. Tournament games showed the type of team Florence could be. In the second game of the tourney, against St. Mary’s, a school record was broken. The Huskies scored 61 points in the first half, with a field goal averaged of 78%.
