In the month of October Apple Day occurs in Penrose. The people of Penrose plan Apple Day for over four months to make it the best ever. When the big day comes, people from miles around gather to enjoy the fun and excitement. The annual parade occurs first with Penrose and Florence floats and the area bands. After the parade the people then retire to the park where they can enjoy free apple pie and the music of the Prison Band. During the day, there are many kinds of races, games, and gymkana events. The evening is then ended with the annual Apple Day dance. This year Patty Ratkovich reigned as Queen for the Apple Day festivities. Her court was as follows: Winnie Sieve, First Attendant; and Thana Bennett, Second Attendant and also Miss Personality. APPLE DAY Apple Day brings people both young and old to enjoy the excitement and festivities. (ABOVE) The people of Penrose and surrounding towns line the streets awaiting the starting of the parade. PIONEER DAY Pioneer Day brings excitement to Florence and surrounding towns. It is a big day for everyone. Miss Rene Johns reigned as Queen this year. Her court was as follows: Miss Vicki Vendetti, First Attendant; Miss Terri Patch, Second Attendant; and Miss Marla Thomas, Miss Personality. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Martin were King and Queen this year. 12

HOMECOMING 1972-1973 Homecoming is a busy week at FHS. Each class builds a float for the parade on Friday. This year seniors took first; juniors, second; sophomores, third; and freshmen, last. A pep assembly held in the gymnasium Friday afternoon preceded the parade. Friday night the game was played, followed by the dance. Royalty for the festivities are (from L. TO R.) Queen, Marsha Koch; senior, Sue West; junior, Kathy Marlow; sophomore, Eva Lenard; and freshman, Mary Spahn. 14
