FLORENCE HIGH SCHOOL TABLE OF CONTENTS Visions 68 ...................4 Celebrities .................32 Sports ......................50 Activities ..................68 People ......................88 Faculty ....................114 Sr. Directory ..............120 2 We, the Annual Staff, in the following pages present to you a brief glimpse of the 1967-68 school year. Your days at F.H.S. are for the purpose of preparing yourself for the future when each will take his place as a citizen in our complex society. Some consider their school days as a carefree experience while others are more serious-minded and are living for the future as well as the present. As you page through this yearbook you will find the students of F.H.S. in a variety of these phases. HEAD EDITOR—Theresa Veltri Co-Editor----John Darrow LAYOUT EDITOR---John Darrow ORGANIZATIONS EDITOR—Sandy Miley PHOTOGRAPHY-----Fred Wolking PHOTOGRAPHIC ASSISTANCE—Bob Cruzen, Cottage Studio and Ken Webster VISIONS 68 The carefree days of summer, fast slipping away, met that time of year familiarly known as schooltime. As the beginning of school approached, students once again experienced the feeling of anticipation mingled with apprehension. The return to old friends, activities, good times, the looking forward to new friends, new faces, new teachers and new classes were part of the anticipation while study, books, homework, and routine brought a tinge of apprehension—but all make up that process known as education. Education is a companion which no misfortune can depress; no crime can destroy, no enemy can alienate, no depotism can enslave. At home a friend, abroad an introduction; in solitude a solace and in society an ornament. It chastens vice, it guies virtue, it gives, at once, grace and government to genius. Without it, what is man? A splended slave, a reasing sav- Joseph Addison 7 Hundreds of kids around... it's hard to keep from talking in a study hall; but then one day you’re walking along and you don’t dare turn around--because you know you're alone. 9 Life is a puzzlement!! But there are always instructors and leaders to light the way. After all--where else could you learn the Elephant Walk” but from F.H.S. Letterettes. IMKIIM 12 The doors of learning are open to everyone. Take a chance— step inside and see beyond the warmth of friends and laughter, the satisfaction from working with others and the sheer joy of discovery. The mind is a machine mn on faith, patience and endurance. To keep the wheels in motion, drive yourself to obtain it. Whether your goal is trying to get a good harmony from a band or supporting your team to the fullest, ambition is your fuel. 17 Homecoming is the time the entire school is alive and everyone works together. The fresh- -men work toward the bonfire, trying to outdo previous classes. Time rushes by as we work on the floats and prepare for the dance. 18 Performing an autopsy on a pig is no laughing matter- -especially right after lunch! We’d much rather be in Mr. Brookin's science class. From groundbreaking to preparation for classes, the new T I building was a welcome addition to Florence High's campus. This modern plant helped upgrade our school's vocational training program greatly, and allowed many more students to obtain this training. 23 24 25 The school year is coming to a close--soon all the frustrations and anxieties will have a happy ending. Along with the last minute for tests, for there is also joy that is all ending. Sunburn, ants in the pool and no fishing licenses were minor inconveniences, but the stops in Salida more than made up for these. All in all, it was an enjoyable day.
