Early in October the senior class was organized for the year 1938-1939, and officers and sponsors were elected for the year. The seniors were prominent in athletics throughout the year. In the fall several senior boys participated in football and received letters. The varsity basketball team was composed almost entirely of senior boys and was an exceptionally good team. The class of 1939 sponsored several social events during the year. The first of these was a penny carnival at which each class and organization had a booth. A Washington’s Birthday dance was given by the senior class in February. On March 20, a skating party was given with all Florence High School students as guests. The final gathering of the class was at the senior banquet and dance which was held on May 12. The first of the seniors’ “special days” was celebrated on St. Patrick’s day when all members of the class appeared in costumes of various kinds. A few weeks later the seniors donned their best clothes for “dress-up” day, and a week later they cast aside their dignity at being small kids for the annual “kid day.” The year was terminated by the Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises, at which forty-eight seniors were graduated.
