A lesson can be learned from an old English proverb, "Time and tide wait for no man." Man has been successful in space flights to the moon, but he cannot control the tide or inhibit the flow of time. We cannot control time, but we can control our activities with which we displace it. In our age of high technology, wasted time is costly. Time creates changes, and we must be prepared to meet them in today's highly competitive marketplace. We are dedicated to preparing you to meet the challenges that will ultimately face you in the future. We feel you have made a wise investment of your time - an investment that will appreciate with time - in pursuing your education at Florence-Darlington Technical College. We want you to always remember the time spent at Florence- Darlington TEC as rewarding and enjoyable. As time brings us to the close of the 1984-85 academic year, I offer my best wishes for a successful future. Fred C. Fore President -Q , , j3ff35qg,,,,,- Helen Frederick Assistant to the President! Throughout the month of January there were speakers, posters and bookmarks, and an alco- hol-related wrecked car on display. The highlight of the month was an alcohol fair, held in the student lounge. A carnival type atmosphere prevailed. Clowns, balloons and festive decora- tions made learning about alcohol in- teresting. During the fair, representa- tives from various organizations were on hand to answer questions and give out leaflets and other information. Response to the alcohol awareness month was great. It could possibly be described best as, "a group of students making things happen through leadership and teamwork." Under the leadership of Jimmy Lewis, President of the SGA, things really happened at TEC in 84-85. What type of things? Cookouts, parties, special entertainment and sports tournaments were just a small beginning. Also, blood drives, fund raisers for charities and - the Ms. TEC Pageant. All of these activities proved to be rewarding experiences for everyone participating. ln addition to becoming involved in activities such as these, SGA members had the opportunity to meet new students, instructors and become a part of a whole new world. Students involved in the SGA generally want a lot more than classes. They want to increase their knowledge, learn how the set priorities and goals, and most of all, have FUN!!! SGA Visits Washington Experts in education feel that students need a variety of extra curricular activities accompanying their classroom studies to give them a well rounded education. Here at Florence-Darlington TEC one ofthe best of these activi- ties is the Student Government Association QSGAJ. The rewards of being an invoived member ofthe SGA can be great. This past year a trip to the "Big DC." fWashingtonl was the highlight. March 2-5, seven SGA members boarded Amtrack to Washing- ton, where they spent several days touring the city. The Capital, White House, Arlington Cemetary, the Smithsonian Institute, and the "Monuments" were favorites of everyone. The trip was an educational experience in itself and it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for some. W' H11 Juv: LIE-VVIS SGA PRESIDENT 1984-85 Life is like a crossroad . . . you come to a certain point . . . and you have to make a decision of which way to go. When I finished high school, I came to a crossroad . . . I had to make the decision of either going to work or continuing my education. I chose to continue my education . . . then another decision had to be made . . . I had to choose which school I wanted to attend. I chose Florence-Darlington Technical College .. . and I am glad I did. At that time, I did not want to make a long commitment. I knew I could make another decision at the end of two years. Coming here, I feel, was a wise decision. I have gained a wealth of knowledge I have made many lasting friendships I have learned to work with college administrators . . . and . . . I have acquired leadership experience that will help me throughout my life. Now . . . with graduation upon me . . . I am at another crossroad . . . I have to make another decision. The learning experience I have enjoyed at TEC has created a desire in me to work toward a baccaulerate degree. My farewell to you saddens me deeply. I will never forget my alma mater . . . and nothing can replace the empty feeling I now experience. I can only hope, though, that sometime in the future . .. possibly at another crossroad another decision will cause our paths to cross again. Sincerely, Jim Lewis SGA President 1984-85 5 l ANGELA FiCVVEl.l. Ms. TEC 1984 lt is hard to believe that an entire year has passed and my reign has come to an end. When Kimberly Harrelson crowned me "Ms. Florence-Darlington TEC, 1984," I had no idea that the year ahead of me would be filled with so many exciting and memorable experiences. lt has been an honor to wear the crown of Ms. TEC. I have had the opportunity to represent not only my College but also the students and my friends who have been so warm and supportive during my reign. Festivals, parades, pageants, and other special appearances around the state have all added up to a wonderful year. Of course, none of these events could have been possible without the help of a true friend, business manager and chaperone - Susan Winchester. I'm truly grateful, Susan! My farewell would not be complete without thanking my wonderful family. Thank you, Ma, for all of your advice and for giving so much of your time and effort. Thank you Daddy and Granny, for all your support and encouragement throughout the year. And to my someone special - my best friend -- thank you for your understanding and patience and for being there when I needed you. l love you all, and l thank God every day for you. TEC, it has been a special year, and I have been proud to represent you as your queen. Thank you!
