With the Energy Club's national recognition, o store winner in the Chevron's creative writing contest, the football team's perfect season and region championship, the baseball team's area championship, and numerous other honors, the attitude here at FHS has shifted into one of greatness. Last year's success story began the surge toward excellence. The 1987-88 school year began wifh high hopes of matching past glories, and even more so, surpassing them. We have come back for more”, and we have achieved that goal; not only in sports, but in every aspect of our lives here at FHS. Perhaps the thing that strengthens out comrodery ond bonds us all so closely together is that our love and loyalty for Flomoton will always reside within us, and we will forever be coming Back For Morel 3 BfNCK FOR Tteven, Say Romance, with a touch of intrigue, filled the air as darkness descended on the evening of May 1. 1987. The night everyone had eagerly anticipated had arrived; the midnight masquer- ade began as the theme song ' Never Say Goodbye signaled the beginning of the lead-out. The night came to a close after the crowning of the prom queen. Shannon Daggett, and the prom king, Kenneth Ellison. Although the night ended much too quickly, we will 'never say goodbye to our mystical memories. After being crowned prom king ond queen. Kenneth Ellison and Shannon Daggett donee the traditional donee. The hard work ond creativity the Junior Closs displayed Is evident in the beautifully decorated gymnasium. The prom queen ond runners-up; 3rd runner-up Heather Stewort. 2nd runner-up Shellie Booth 1st runner-up Sharmon Owens. Prom Queen Shannon Daggett. Jam on if! The juniors owaif the start of the prom. Sophomores enjoy themselves os the evening progresses. Slow songs provide o much-needed rest for couples doncing the night owoy. Seniors ond their dotes onticipote the remoinder of the night s festivities. Speciol moments ore spent in the mysticol ouro of prom night. 7 A Savage Dilemma On April 23. 1987, fhe stage was set. and the audience anxiously awaited the open- ing scene of The Savage Dilemma. Presented by the Flomaton High School Drama Club, the play dramatizes the hap- penings surrounding a private institution in Massachusetts. The patients' personalities added life to the already intricate plot. Directed by Mrs. Orenda Gandy and Ms. Pot Ridley, the ploy proved to be a dra- matic success. Members of the cost were Gisrie Killom. Brion Shel- ton. Heorher Srewon. Rodney Lord. Jolmdo Nelson. Doreen Heller. Rebecco Pugh. Dee Donduranr. Sherry Arront. ond Chris Folsom. Behind the scenes. Greg Odom worked on set design ond construction. Chris Folsom wos the light ond sound technician, ond Volerio Pope wos heod of hoir ond costume design. Graduation ’87 May 26, 1987, was the climax of 12 years of hard work and much fun for Flomaton High School's class of 1987. The Val- edictory address was given by Orion Shelton, followed by Scoff Harwell's Salutatory address. As the seniors gathered in the auditorium for the last time, they reflected upon their glorious years at FHS. 10 Bicentennial Celebration Flomoton High students ore proud of the PRIDE ond spirit we display toward our school. Our loyalties go much deeper, how- ever. We os o student body proved this patriotism as we commemorated the 200fh birthday of the American Con- stitution. After the recitation of the pledge, everyone stood respectfully through the ploy- ing of the national onthem ond speeches given by various speak- ers. The program, directed by the 11th grade CP American history doss, was under the leadership of Mrs. Martha Pugh. As the program concluded with the bond's rendi- tion of Amazing Groce. the stu- dents filed bock to theit respective classrooms with full hearts ond a renewed sense of PRIDE in being on American os well os o Hurricane. DOWN YDS. TO GO QTR. I 10 H ESCAMBIA COUNTY BANK ' YOUR FULL SERVICE BRNK A humbling experience it was indeed. Twenty years had passed before the CANES could defeat the Dlackcats on their own turf. This year was the exception, os the unstoppable Cones dominated their cross-town rivals. The onnuol gome is nearly always the highlight of both team's respective seasons. Previous records and rankings ore irrelevant. This is more than o gome; it's broggin' rights and the school's honor ot stoke. The Friday night confrontation was actually the climax of o whole week's revelry. Everything to which o poster could be toped, or anything that could be decorated was. Cars, lockers, clothes, ond even faces bore the Cones logo. It seemed olmost no one was immune to Cone fever during this emofionally- tense week. For the post two yeors. the Cones hove come out on top of the heap. Hopefully, this trodition will continue. 13 Homecoming week is always eagerly an- ticipated. This year was no exception, and perhaps was the best homecoming yet. Not only did the students enjoy this week, but former graduates anticipated returning to their alma mater. During homecoming pregome ceremonies. Shannon Chancery was crowned 1907 Homecoming Queen by Principal Ken Corbin. Shannon was escorted by Greg Dyrd. 1st runner-up was Jimmie Courtney. Jimmie wos escorted by Vince Johnson. 2nd runner-up wos Stephanie White. Stephanie was escorted by Jerry Eilond. The 11th grade offendant wos Virginio Voughn. Virginia wos escorted by Doug Dole. The 10th grade attendant wos Jennifer Hollington. Jennifer wos escorted by Store Rep- resentative Skippy White. The 9th grade attendant wos Kristie Warrick. Kristie wos escorted by Jim Dondurant. Representing the 6th grade was Brandy Carden. Brandy wos escorted by Chris White. 15 4 20ee Homecoming week gof underway with the building of the floats. The friendly competition between the classes added excitement to the sometimes hard work. The sophomores won in the junior category with the theme We're on a Roll. The seniors' Wipe-Out the Cyclones'' took the senior competition. On Friday night, the game was jam-packed with fans who gof their money's worth as the CANES rolled to a 40-0 victory over the Southern Normal Cyclones. Even though the game was over, the fun wasn't. The senior class sponsored a homecoming dance with the ever-popular Wipe-Out theme. The community center was decorated with palm frees, green and white streamers, and a lounging hurricane os emcee. Everyone had a great time dancing until the night drew to a close. The week ended much too quickly, as all great times seem to do. However. Flomoton High School will never forget Homecoming 1987 and the excitement it brought. BhCK FOR 2U BJt lLnJ r t 16 K.. B.JL. 2 ,. J B.J, VILA B.J. SI... B tk CUL B i ff KM.B Ut ML. ALABAMA 141 HZ Some men give up their designs when they hove olmost reached theit goal; while others, on the contrary, obtain a victory by exerting at the last moment, more vigorous efforts than before. Polybius 142 143 Time is perhaps rhe mosf evasive concept known to man. To capture it is impossible, but to record some of its best moments is one way to recreate life at it greatest — thus preserving valuable memories. 1987-88 was a year of firsts and lasts, laughter and tears, and innumerable other happenings jam-packed into an unforgettable time. We hove grown together and are more unified than ever. The year has passed but is not forgotten. This year can never be erased from our memories. The accomplishments and ideals for which we have strived will serve to pave the rood for generations to come. They ore not long, the days of wine and roses ... This quotation rings true. Things do change, but some things remain the same. Students of FHS are never satisfied with mediocrity and will always be BACK FOR MORE. 144 Autographs TaykM Publishing Company t 5 o Hmn ‘Tftat i Out 4l «a THaitt, eoe tolli «oi faillct 7o loot cA f Aouot aud elap cA f frtaloc. 7A f CfCOtO o{ CtOtAl U} to UO ScOCCcAluQ. 7e St ttuc i all tot do IStoufA ali out dacfO. 7Ac fM.ro coc'vc Sccu Sttt, 4te fta.ro tot Sold dtat, 7At f aJtt uo fact «tat, 4ltAou$A ot fra.it, 4o tftaro roll Stf 7Sou colit St «IqA 2tlc altoatfO colit oot (Att otlll TUuAIk out Stanto. fltAoupA cot rt Itaoluef Out Statio art pileola Out (AouyAlo arc coeavluy.
