Boys' State — Girls' State Greg Chavers and Denise Smith served as the representatives to Boys' State and Girls' State. Having been chosen by the high school faculty, they spent a week learning more about the city, state, and national govern- ment. Boys' State was held at Troy State University and Girls' State was held at Huntington College. Southern Pine Representatives Greg was sponsored by the Flomaton Lions Club and Denise was sponsored by the Flomaton Research Club. Greg Chavers and Kasey Nelson were selected by the faculty to serve as the Southern Pine Good Citizen- ship boy and girl. They competed with other students from different schools for a trip to Washington, D.C. Clockwise from the top: Mr. M. A. Allgood, president of the Lions Club, presents a check to Greg Chavers who u as chosen as the Boys' State delegate. Mrs. Charles Bowles, president of the Flomaton Research Club, presents a check to Denise Smith who was chosen as the Girls' State delegate At the end of the week, Denise received a certificate for attending Girls' State. Greg Chavers and Kasey Nelson represent Flomaton High School as the Southern Pine Good Citizenship boy and girl. Greg was given a shirt to designate which city he lived in. 28
