Weight Lifting Club .26 - y y The Weight Lifting Club has as its purpose to motivate athletes to lift more and more each week. Meeting three days a week, the members work out with weights and through this regular training develops determination and strength. 1. At the Tri-City Weight Lifting Meet held Feb. 15 at the Century High School Gym the Flomaton team took overall 4 out of 7 events. Overall winners were Scott Hammond, Scottie Waller, Tracey Steadham and James Allen. Winners in the Bench were Scotty White, Doug Welch, Scottie Waller, Tracey Emmons, Ronnie Hammond, Jamie Strength, Gene Waguespack, James Allen and Scottie Stewart. 1. Under the leadership of Coach Judy Bell, the Flomaton Girls Softball Team had a record of 10 and 2. The girls had wins over Jay, 8-3 and 7-4; Castleberry, 6-5; Century, 14-6; Earnest Ward, 16-14; Elba, 17-2 and 6-5; and Florala, 23-13. The team lost once to Earnest Ward and Century. This was the second year Flomaton had a girls softball team. The 1984 Lady Hur- ricanes will be returning with valuable experience upon losing only three seniors. Softball

Fighting to overcome injuries and inexperience, the 1983 Hur- ricanes Football Team had a record of 2-8. Only three starters from last year returned to play this year. They were Brian Richburg, on offense; Timmy Kyles, who played on defense and offence; and An- thony Straughn, who played on defense. The other two seniors were Greg Hinote and Kenny Can- non. Both played on offense; however, Kenny sat out most of the season because of injuries. With nine juniors, twelve sophomores, three freshmen and three eighth graders, the team was very young. According to Coach Sawyer, with our different classification schedule next year and valuable experience gained this year, we should have a good chance to improve considerably in the future.
