It is the home of many varieties of wildlife. Its trees anchor the soil and I aid in protecting the watershed, and they actually manufacture much of the oxygen we breathe. At T.R. Miller, we grow mostly longleaf yellow pine for its fine wood products. Because we also recognize the importance of preserving the forest as an animal habitat and place of recreation, we make most of our forest land available for these purposes. Part of these lands is a wildlife area managed by the State of Alabama. A majority of our other land is also available for hunting and fishing. We recognize the advantages of the multiple use of the forest. It provides a good source of jobs, recreation, wood products and beauty. And the animals are right at home. T.R. Homecoming, and Prom night are all sparkling memories of the 1982 school year, but the memory that will outshine them all is the anticipation and pride we all felt as we waited to enter the new school building. The old school, like an old friend, is only a dim and comfortable memory, but the new school, like a new friend, offers bright and exciting memories to be created for the future. Flomaton High School, built in 1928, has served as an institu- tion of learning for 54 years. Beginning with Mr. John Martin as principal and a staff of only 5 teachers, Flomaton High School has grown to a staff of 18 teachers with Mr. Ken Corbin as principal and Mrs. Lola Weaver as secretary. You Made It Shine 142 Closing After months of anticipa- tion, the bright spot of the 1982 school year finally arriv- ed; we were allowed to move into the new school on February 10, 1982. While we, the students, made the moments shine, upon entering the new school we realized that the presence of sunshine yellow walls and skylights would make even the dullest days seem brighter. Construction of the new school had begun in lanuary 1981 and after several delays was finally completed and ap- proved in lanuary 1982. At the time of its completion, the new school cost about fifty-six dollars per square foot, more than any other school previously built in Escambia County. The building housed approximately 350 students. We the annual staff sincere- ly hope that the pride that the students of Flomaton High School now feel toward the new building will continue to SHINE in years to come so that this school will endure for future generations.
