A Journey Through ike Year FOREWORD As our school year closes, our journey also comes to an end. Al- though it has not all been smooth traveling, as we near our destina- tion we have a feeling of accomplishment. This past year has taught us many lessons, but none as important as those we have learned through experience. As you turn the pages of your Hurricane in the years ahead, may your minds be filled with happy memories of a wonderful year. He was born in Darlington, Alabama, on November 11, 1916. He went to Wil- cox County High School. He got his B.S. degree from Auburn in 1941; Honorary Farmers degree in 1964; and his M. Ed. from Auburn in 1964. He was also a Representative of the County Teachers Association at the State Fair in 1961. He has been at F.H.S. for 10 years. He teaches Vocational Agriculture; and he serves as Assistant Principal. His hobbies are woodworking, gardening, hunting, and sports. His favorite food is steak. Miss Joyce Hines, es- corted by Douglas Johnson, was given the title of First Runner-Up, (Lower right). Miss Charlotte Spears, escorted by Earl Thornton, was named Second Runner-Up, (Lower Left). THE HOMECOMING COURT ACTION! Homecoming 1964 brought a huge crowd out to see an exciting game played between Flomaton and Baker. The Band put on a good performance in both the pre-game and halftime shows. The game ended in Flomaton winning 26-0. 63 HOMECOMING PARADE 10th GRADE “BAGS” 1st PRIZE 12 A B 10 A B 8 A 9 A B 11 A B LIBRARY STAFF These students are in charge of library circulation every period of the day. Besides manning the desk, the girls slip and shelve books, write overdue notices, help process new books, and type catalog cards. PAPER STAFF This staff is composed of Senior Class Members. They publish a paper twice a month. The name of the paper is the Hurricane Herald. 65 BETA CLUB To lead by serving others is the aim of the Beta Club. The requisites for membership in this organization are three: Scholarship, leadership, and service. STUDENT COUNCIL This is an organization composed of representatives from each class. This year their main projects is to lay a foundation for an Honor System in our school. 66 JR. 4-H CLUB The Jr. 4-H Club has many projects. Cooking, sewing, canning, lamp making, poultry raising and calf raising. Their projects help them to be better prepared for their future roles in life. SR. 4-H CLUB The Sr. 4-H Club keeps a record book to show what they have accomplished at the end of the year. They learn about sewing, cooking, and farming, so they will be better prepared for the future. 67 FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA The club is exploratory in nature, its purpose being to study the teaching field with an idea of evaluating it as a choice for a career. “F” CLUB The F Club is composed of athletes who have earned the highest honor at F.H.S., the major F. 68 FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA The Future Farmers of America are very important to the function of our school program. The members have worked to display their talents in both school and community projects. FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA The over-all goal of Future Homemakers is to help the individual girl to improve her personal, family, and community living, now and in the future. 69 GLEE CLUB The Glee Club, grades seven through nine, under the expert direction of Winston Hollingsworth, learn to love and appreciate fine music. The long hours of planning, cropping, and laying out pic- tures, writing and re-writing copy finally paid off as the faithful staff experienced the satisfaction of a job well done.
