Smartly taking a low pitch tor a ball is Missy Beebe Pitching admirably in every game is Becky Hopper Crystal Gray makes solid contact tor a base hit to right field Coach Long has done wonders with the girls’ softball team. He turned an erratic team destined to a losing season into one of the better teams in Class “C . An example of the turn around is against Bentley. Early in the season they lost a tough game to Bentley because they committed too many errors and base running mistakes. Later in the season the softball team destroyed Bentley by the score of seventeen tc nine. Missy Beebe back from an extended absence became the pitching star on the team. She pitched a no-hitter against Saginaw St. Mary in a twenty-seven to nothing win. This game was easily the climax of the season in that they did whatever they wanted in the victory. Powerhouse sluggers Tabatha Koger Sylvene Riddick, and Thelma Koger had a field da against St. Mary’s pitching staff. Academy Thinclads Take Charge In Area Relays The 1984 Academy track team finished out a fine season, taking fourteenth place in State competition. The Eagles were well-trained and dedicated, resulting in a hard-working team. Led by team captain Larry Hawthorne and co-captain Bernard Cole, the thinclads raced their way to a first place trophy at the Bentley Relays and several second and third places throughout the season.
