The hottest fad of 1984 — Breakdancing Carlos Johnson demonstrates The 1984 Talent Show was an all around suc- cess on and off the stage floor. The show consist- ed of students mostly from the Academy par- ticipating in sketches. Since 1984 was the year of breakdancing; that was the main event. The Wac Dancers marveled the judges with their moves to win first place along with $50. The Dy- namic Breakers, Carlos Johnson and Kian John- son, won second place and twenty-five dollars by putting on a show with speculator dancing. Serenia Flourney sang her way to third place and fifteen dollars. There were many performers who did not win but per- Jerry Minor and George Hannah sparkle the crowd with their breakdancing moves. formed remarkly well. Eighteen people actually performed on April 6. The two major trips scheduled for Spring '84 at the Flint Academy were to Boston and Washington DC. The 11th grade American Literature and U.S History students vis- ited Boston, Massachusetts on May 15-20 while the 9th grade Civics students travelled to our nation’s capital, Wash- ington D C., on March 29-April 2. On their way to Boston, the 11th graders went through Canada and stopped by Niag- ara Falls. They visited such sights as the House of Seven Gables, John Hancock Obser- vatory. Old North Church, Granary Burying Ground, and the New State House When coming back home, they first went to Rhode Island to visit the Marble House and Hunter House. The sponsors were Ms. Glenda Eiler and Mr Bruce Wiltse The 9th graders visited the FBI Building. U.S. Su- preme Court. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, and the Smithsonian Mall.
