"Big-hearted Seniors! ST WILL Wc, the Senior Class of 1958, having attained the maximum peak of intellectual discernment, con- quered all obstacles, won great fame and glory, gained all knowledge to be found in the textbooks, ele- vated our character and reputation to the superlative degree of dignity and intrinsic worth, and possessing supreme mental capacities, and not acting under fraud, duress, menace or under the influence of any person whatsoever, on this thirtieth day of April in the year of our Lord 1958, do solemnly swear and af- firm that this is our last will and testament bequeathing the following personaland real estate, which we so diligently strived to accumulate in four short years of secondary education, to the beloved juniors, couching our legal document in mono-syllabic terms that they may be able to assimilate the meaning without the aid and advice of a legal mind, To the members of our beloved faculty who look upon our departure with smiles of joy, we bequeath the satisfaction which comes from duties well performed and a peaceful rest from the weary task of ed- ucating us, We also leave them a large amount ofsympathy for the depressing days ahead of them next year -- that of pounding knowledge into the Juniors' craniums. To the Iunior Class we bequeath: First, Our Senior dignity. May they uphold it with becoming seriousness, endeavoring to overcome their usual scatterbrained and frivolous flippancy. Secondly, That which gives us the greatest pang to part with -- our strongly entrenched places in the hearts of the faculty who have loved us devotedly, because -- they couldn't help it! Comfort them in their loss, but do not imagine you can mangle their hearts as we have done in the past years, Thirdly, We will our Senior authority, for those who uphold it and guard it well. The following valuable personal bequeaths freely and fully given should be treasured as a continual reminder of the abundant and overwhelming generosity of the class of 1958. We trust these responsibil- ities will be assumed promptly and bring important results. l, MARCIE VanGORDEN, do will to Annette Courtney, my beautiful "48" spotted gray Chevy to push to school and to Elsie DeBaun, all my old boy friends, as I won't be needing them anymore. I, CAROLYN WILSON, do will my ability to play "Cupid" to anyone who thinks it is fun and to Sue Bartlett my ability to make "B" on the English exam by guessing at the answers. fAlso my fingernails to chew on.J I, DAVID ESTELL, do will my sleeping ability in English Class and Study Hall to Tom McClure, who I know will use it to the very best advantage, and also, my silver-bullet Chevy and my mechani- cally inclined grey matter to Kent Harrell. I, CHARLES BROWN, do will my obstreperous typing habits to Henry Lay for he has none of his owr' and to Mr. Ioe Rawlings, all my old "Crook" cigars. f"Where there's smoke there's fire. "J ADTET ET I, KATHIE BENSON, do will my "Cobra Cut" to Joy Baker, because it suits her personality better than mine and to Hay Doy Sampson, my vast knowledge of Physics, I, LARRY BUSH, do will my ability to stay out of trouble, to Steve Meek, who needs it very much and my intelligence to all the freshman girls who think I'm so dumb. May they use it well. I, NORMA HODSON, do will my ability to argue to anyone who wants it, I, LINDA STOVER, do will to Sierra Snyder, all my old boy friends, especially those from Brown County. We, LINDA STOVER and ROSIE ROBERTSON, do will to Annette Courtney, the guy in the little "Pink" and "White" Ford because we have no further use for him. I, ROSIE ROBERTSON, do will to Penney McCarty, my good driving habits, We, ROSIE ROBERTSON and SHARON CALHOUN, do will to the Seniors of next year, all the fun we've had in English Class, I, SHARON CALHOUN, do will my knowledge in Bookkeeping to Carolyn Talkington. I, JERRY WASSON, do will my Chemistry and Physics books to Karen Kirk with all the knowledge that must be in them -- I don't have it! I, RONNIE DRISCOLL, do will all the girls to Dean Nading as I know he will pay more attention to them than I have done. To David Smiley, my quiet, studious ability in shop. I, DEAN SWINFORD, do hereby will my poor depleted treasurer's book to the Junior Class -- there are no funds -- just the book! We, SHARON CALHOUN and DEAN SWINFORD, will our Editorship of the Yearbook to any junior who likes to work -- fthe line forms to the right lj Any beneficiary attempting to subvert, overturn, nullify, or in any way interfere with the privisions of this document, shall be deprived of all rights and privileges therein granted to him or her. Lastly, we do make and ordain our esteemed Principal, Mr, Charles Wetzel, to be the only and sole executor of this our Last Will and Testament, and we do hereby utterly disallow, revoke, and annul each and every other former testament, will, legacy, and executors in any way before this named, willed and bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be our Last Will and Testament, hereinto we set our hands and seal. t 7' we iK SENIORS INITIATE FRESI IMEN IN "II Could bc You" "Art I,mklcttcr's House Party" " Hcat the Clock" "Queen for a Day" is Q' - ,,,1- -r I, I 1 ca 4 .. wx-wpfif 4' 'Tx Y e X QF JU IOR Were off to R-f' a brg start wxth x XM magazrne sales gomg over thc top then con Ni cessrons at hall games and lunch hour and suppers 'fvi Qs 'dx X Mgiggvw 'Q TQ fi PX .9"'w -5 ti often as possrble helped them earn those Washxngton New York IICRCISI he Lin, 39,1 A - ' LA ZF . Let me tell you her story. On a beautiful fall morning in 1893 the first students entered the doors of a new school building to become the first graduating class of Flat Rock High School, Only a few were enrolled then, but as time went on the number increased and the need for more room became a necessity, So, in 1926 a new section was added to the old building, Old and new she has stood for many years and never complained a bit. The tramping of hundreds of feet over her floors, the complaints of students because they had to come to school, the echo of doors slammed, and the crashing of balls through her windows have never fazed her. After all these years of rough treatment and storms, she's still in pretty good condition. Sometimes her roof leaks a little when it rains, but a few buckets here and there remedy this problem. Let me tell you more of the extra curricular activities. The first big event of the year is the school party, At this time students run up and down the stairs yelling, sliding down the fire escape, and eating until they altnost pop, Next comes the basketball season with excitement mounting throughout the winter terminating with the sectional tourney. Christmas is always a happy, joyful occasion at F, R. H. S. with an all-school program, gift exchange, and treats for all, In the spring come initiation, the senior play, track meets, studying for finals, spring fever, and the most important of all -- the much anticipated senior trip, For four years the seniors work hard with the help of faculty, parents, and friends to make enough money to spend a week seeing New York and Washington, Underclassmen and faculty miss them but such restful loneliness! ! Baccalaureate and Commencement highlight the final closing days of the school year. Many students have sat on the stage and in retrospect found that their school days were extremely happy ones with many fond memories, But as the graduates of 1958 take their places Commencement night, they will realize that while their diplomas sig- nify the closing of the high school doors at Flat Rock High School, they also mean the opening of the doors to greater op- portunity in education for succeeding classes at the new Southwestern High School, ' 'W-'Q 5 -'FS 1, ,yifv , 5 A ' N Lf .vw Q42 r- QT RESERVED FOR V.
