:gui-W ,N N 'Q 2 ca. David M. Knip 2 Q Q A native of eastern Pennsylvania, Master Chief David Knipple was born in York in 1960. Hejoined the Navy in February 1978 underthe Delayed Entry Program, and reported to RecruitTraining Command,Great Lakes,Illinois for BasicTraining in July 1978. Master Chief Knipple's first tour ofduty was at Naval Radio Transmitting Facility,Capas, Tarlac, Republic ofthe Philippines,followed byatouraboard USS COCHRANE CDDG 211 homeported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and then laterYokosuka,Japan. After departing the USS COCH RAN E, he returned to the Philippines and was stationed at Naval Communication Station Philippines, San Miguel. His duties included Calibration Laboratory and Communications Maintenance Division Leading Petty Officer, and assistant Command Training Officer. 6 In 1988 Master Chief Knipplereturned to sea duty aboard USS CROMMELIN KFFG 371 homeported in Long Beach, California and then later Pearl Harbor,Hawaii. His duties included Leading Chief Petty Officer oftwo divisions and a myriad of collateral duties. In 1992 Master Chief Knipple was stationed at Fleet Tactical Deception Group Pacific, operating out of Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado. His duties included Systems Department Leading Chief Petty Officer and assistant Command Master Chief. He received an Associate of Arts degree in General Studies from Central Texas College in 1993. Returning to sea once again in 1995, Master Chief David Knipple reported aboard USS CARL VINSON CCVN 7Ol homeported in Alameda, California and then later based in Bremerton, Washington. He served as the Operations Department Master Chiefand Assistant Command Master Chief. In 1997, Master Chief Knipple attended the Senior Enlisted Academy in route to assume responsibilties as USS FITZGERALD CDDG 62l Command MasterChief. Master Chief Knipple's decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal fwith three gold starsl, Navy Achievement Medal Cwith one gold starl, Joint Service Unit Citation, Navy Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation lwith two starsl, and a GoodConduct Medal iwith five starsl. -dur
