■ Saxifrage 1976 Fitchburg State College Look to this day! For it is life, the very life of life. In its brief course lie all the varities and realities of your existence: The bliss of growth; The glory of action; The splendor of beauty; For yesterday is already a dream, and tomorrow is only a vision; But today, well lived, makes every yesterday A dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well, therefore, to this day! Such is the salutation of the dawn! from the Sanskrit ?a e tbu g The Fitchburg State coat of arms features banners above and below a three part Gothic shield. The upper division consists of a gold hooded white falcon, the school athletic emblem; the white Saxifrage within a wreath of saxifrage leaves, the seal of 1900; and a golden sun shining over a seedling bursting through a rocky cover. The lower division contains two open books. On the left is a book inscribed with ARS, symbolizing the fields of the Arts. On the right is a book inscribed with the word SCIENTIA, symbolizing the fields of Science. The numbers 18 and 9 show our date of incorporation as a state school. Finally, the word Perseverantia, achievement brought about by quiet will became the School Motto in June, 1900. .
