But, below the surface the year has a character of its own. We, the staff, have attempted to produce not merely an account of the school year, but to capture the spirit, that certain character which is a part of FSC and the Class of 1962. As we approach graduation we find our- selves closer to the realization of our goals. Each of us has gained through classes, organizations and activities. May each one of us realize the responsibilities we have to our community and mankind. The Editor 2 ■ ■_ _. Weston, President A Message to the Class of 1962 Dedicated to his role as Presi- dent. Mr. Weston has worked long and hard to fulfill his goals for Fitchburg. Because of his sincere interesl in the growth of the col- lego, ewry student has a right and obligation to feel pride in the college. In a conversation last year, Robert Frost remarked, " The Founding Fathers didn ' t believe in the future. They believed it in. You ' re al- ways believing ahead of your evidence The most creative thing in us is to believe a thing in, in love, in all else. " The " evidence " of your personal future and that of your world is yet ahead of you. I only hope that these years in which you have both given and received of mind and heart here have left within you a great residue of desire to share your knowledge and your faith with others, to many of whom the past four years may have been those of darkness and despair. In the spirit of your Alma Mater, may you help to " believe in " a future of light and truth for yourself and for your world. Ralpi F. Weston Assistant to the President Fredrick £ Cuddy Mr. Luddy, a man of character and prin- ciple, has done much to improve the physical appearance of the college. All who know him mark him as a man of direction, one who knows his goals and those of the institution he serves. Dean of Instruction Helen K. Kussell Her interest in students goes beyond sched- uling and marks. Mrs. Russell has a deep and genuine interest in the academic, emotional, and intellectual growth of the students. Dam of Men Philip J. McMurray His vocation is Dean of Men. His avocation is the guiding and counseling of young men at Fitch- (JosephineA- ftolger As an active woman, she can better understand the young women of Fitchburg with a sincere and genuine interest. Fitchburg combined a terrific team effort with timely hitting, good fielding and ex- cellent pitching. A few highlights of the baseball season occurred when Jim Herrick pitched a 5-0 shutout over Boston, and Pete McEvilly and Emil Johnson had two hits apiece. Combined efforts of Emil Johnson ' s pitch- ing and a run-producing single by Dick DiOrio defeated Lowell 2-1 in the first game of the double header. The second game was an 11-0 rout, with Jim Herrick pitching the shutout an d Larry Shea getting two doubles. As Fitchburg remained undefeated the tension mounted. The double header with Keene was highlighted by the pitching of Emil Johnson, and the hitting of Bill Walsh. Dick DiOrio, and Mike Sullivan. Fred Sullivan sacrificed in the winning run against Bridgewater, with Mike Sullivan contributing two hits. In the final game of the season, the crucial game, Fitchburg came through with Ed Hytinen and Emil Johnson ' s pitching, along with the hitting of Dick DiOrio. Tom Flynn, and Larry Shea.
