Student Counci I Honor is the soul of any school. NNithout it a school degenerates into an institution of the police state variety. Wfith it cadets and faculty work together for the betterment of the school and each individual. The student council is charged with maintaining the high standards of honor of the Fishburne Cadet Corps. It is no easy task to be a member of the student council. A position on the council calls for a clear head, a judicial turn of mind, and above all an instinctive sense of fair play. Cadets on the council must be above barracks politics, above pettinessy and vindictiveness, and above favoritism. It takes moral couzage of the highest type at times to 'lender judglnents that are just, especially when friendships may be involved. Under the careful guidance of its chairman, Albert H. Powell, the student council of 1949, has accomplished its mission diligently, fairly, and admirably. Each member is deserving of a vote of thanks from the Corps for a difficult task well done. john Mason, Alfred Hansen, john Nachtinan, Albert Powell, Nelson Saunders, W'illiam Old, Wfalter l'Vood, Calvin Cole, Scott Kelly, Joseph Darnall, lflfyatt Shorter, Charles Xhfeskett, james McMillan, blames Nevin. Commiddionecf 0 ficerd I Counci! The Cadet Connnissioned Qfficers set the tone of the entire corps. A group of lazy, incompetent officers means a careless, undisciplined corps. A group of energetic, efficient officers means a fine, well disciplined corps. The cadet officers of '49 were conscientious, fair, and efficient. lt was through the hard work and the tireless efforts of these cadets that made the Fishburne Corps of 1949 one of the best in the school's his- tory. It was they who whipped the corps into shape in the Fall. lt was they who helped to maintain a very high standard of discipline in the barracks. And it was they who led the corps successfully through the GJ.. i To each of these cadets goes the gratitude of students and faculty alike for their diligence, loyalty, and efficiency. Their places will be hard to fill.
