OD DIVISION OD Division, commonly referred to as 1st Division , is comprised entirely of the Boat- swain ' s Mate (BM) rating. Deck preservation, underway replenishment, helicopter deck operations, operation and maintenance of the ship ' s motor whaleboat and captain ' s gig, marlinspike seamanship, anchoring and mooring evolutions are all in a days work for the BM ' s of 1st Division. Ol DIVISION Sailors in the Operations Specialist (OS) rating comprise Ol Division. Tactical control of aircraft, aircraft safety of flight, ASW Air Controller, manual ships position plot, contact reporting and tracking, supervision of watchstanders in the combat information center (CIC) are but some of the various jobs carried out by the OS ' s in their home, the Combat Information Center. Spending many long hours in the dark of CIC staring at radar scopes and talking to aircraft overhead, men of Ol Division have their fingers on the pulse of FIFE ' S operations and tactical situation.
