He was commissioned an Ensign in August 1965 upon graduation from the University of California at Berkley. Captain Amborn's sea assign- ments include duty as Combat Infor- mation Center Officer in USS MOR- TON QDD 948i and USS JOHN S. McCAIN QDDG 361, Weapons Officer in USS WADDELL LDDG 24y and Executive Officer in USS RATH- BURNE IFF 1057j. His assignments ashore have included tours on the Combined Staff of Commander, Allied Naval Forces Staff College, and as an instructor on the Staff of Tactical Training Group, Pacific. Captain Amborn has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. Captain Amborn is married to the former Pamela F. H. Smith of London, England.
