The work started practically before the cock crowed on those unforgettable mornings last sum- mer with Donna in command and everyone marching. Although they won- dered if their time was well spent, every effort paid off because our gold gals presented us with another topnotch corps this year. On December 28th, the annual Drum Corps banquet was held at 'l'ed's Grill decorated to the theme of a "Music Shop." Donna .lohnston broke the suspense by announcing Phyllis Yeates as next years drum major. 'lihe preflall trip to Vinita. Labor Day parade. and the football perform- ances were but a few of the events by which the girls "kept in shape." They gave a special basketball half-time drill and for the climax of the year, tray! eled to Joplin for the non-competitive contest. 'lihey kept up the tradition again by walking away with lop honors and a high 97.5 rating. Barbara Heusted. track queen. and Sandra liwing. football queen. were th: organizations contribution to the schools royalty. 'lihe selection of new members and the annual picnic have rounded out a happy year and another summer session will begin a new corps-'one which we all know will be "kept on top" by our favorite director "Papa" l.ewis. 'lihe senior girls have put away their drums and bugles. and drum corps days for them will always remain cherished memories. i i 'Vu YEL Ogg L99 Q O "NOW l TH HOU F155- 'r '64 Eu Nc lllztilress Qlult 'X' ,pm pq 'cf-' T37 Q' CV' 3 C7 ww VM' vs' C-22' 'KJ X I. lfronr row. The Tornado Teams In Action The Tornado Hoopsters got off to a slow start in their I'l5U-5I season. but inaiiagetl to get their machine rolling and gain a tie for the SIQK I.eague crown. After meeting defeat at Bartlesville in their first game, they went on to win six straight league games before receiving their first league defeat at Parsons late in January. They went on to win four more games before meeting Parsons again for their second league defeat of the year, However. Parsons was easily taken care of by Independence and Pittsburg, who in turn were taken care of by Coach Oren Stoner's crew. The Tornado team was red hot in the regional tournament, I'hey druhhed Independence by a margin of I6 points in their first game. In the second game they met Altamont. who after seventeen straight wins. were dumped unmercifully by the Tornado 48-Z4. The Hoopsters met their Vyiaterloo at Emporia in the state tournament when they met Winfield. An eleven point margin separated the two teams when the final bell rang, It was apparent that the boys were not playing the type of hall they were capable of playing. Patil Crandell was elected captain of the team for the I950-5l basketball season. Bill Tipton and Paul Crandell rated berths on the All SEK squad. Both fellows well deserved to he placed on the "coaches dream team." Jay Brady and Jack Kiddoo also re- ceived honorable mention. u- Gllqztmp SU-5.1, Tornado Trail Coffeyville Coffeyville Coffeyville Coffeyville Coffeyville Coffeyville Coffeyville Coffeyville Coffeyville Coffeyville Coffeyville Coffeyville Colifeyville Coffeyville CoffL'yviIIt' Coffeyville Coffeyville Coffeyville Coffeyville Coffeyville Zl, 37 50. 44. 42 '57, 43. 48. 60 32 48. 38 45. 44. 55 37 62. 46 48. 34.
