The United States looked back upon her first two hundred years of greatness with much respect for the people and the events that shaped our lives. Slogans urging people to take an active part in All1Cl'iCZl,S Bicentennial celebration were everywhere. Committees of all kinds were formed to insure that America's two hundredth birthday celebration would be the best possible. Special events and performances helped us to look back and relive our past. Reflections of a two-hundred year period were easier for us than reliving a one year period at Ferrlml College. Ferruxn College, like everywhere else in America, is proud of the United States' accomplishments. This college, formed in 1913, has done much to aid in the de- velopment of Virginia. The college was honored hy being named a Bicentennial College. Within our college year, special Bicentennial speakers and events were staged on campus for our enjoyment and education, but at the same time, to help us aqziwrecaaa if our past. I 3 4 Bishop Kenneth Goodson, speaking at the winter convocation, reflected upon a problem that the Bi- centennial celebration could create. Bishop Goodson commented that "People get so caught up in celebrating that they forget what it is they are celebratingf' He then appealed for a sincere celebra- tion of America's founding. We at Ferrum will look back upon 1975 and 1976 in our separate ways at the Bicentennial celebration. True, by living, we look back to the co1mtry's past, but what about each individua1's past? The events from 1776 until now have done much to influence our lives, but living one year at college has shaped our future far more. ll ,,,' , ,, ,M M-lalgql , lil lil llll llll lll 1 wwf M li 1. tw' 1 , l lat Personal experiences and new relationships of one year will always be remembered. Wlnen we look back upon our one year, we should see ways in which we have grown and prospered. We have seen fun tiines and sad timesg cold, cruel., indifferent timesg but also warm beautiful times. Reflections of the past are highly individual. We will relive the aspects that influenced us the most. Bishop Kenneth Goodson was the guest speaker. Observing the Bicentennial Year, his theme was HA Nation Under Godw. Bish- op Goodson stated in his speech that people were so enthused about celebrating the Bi- centennial that many had lost its true meaning. His message conveyed the feeling that if the United States was a nation under God, the Bicentennial would be more mean- ingful. fm? 17 Three Major Plays F Cl'l'l1lll,S Drama Departnlent produced three major plays: Jack Tales, The Misan- lhropc and Oedipus Rex. .lack Tales, a collection of folklore talcs, was presented to elclnentary school children throughout the state. The Misanlhrope was a reading play in which the actors used hand, face and voice expression to convey the actual meanings. Dorm living gives everyone concerned an ex- cellent opportunity to become involved with people from different areas, backgrounds and with different interests. Each person involved gains experience in human relations and new friendships made will last a lifetime. The hours we spend in the dorm with our friends make the memories that we will look back on later in life. Q ...a - Nui X ' Hin.-.'n,r A:'Zf3,"..L' 5,5 , ' . 'rg' - .fa-nur 31.1 -12' ""' ' y . aa?
