It is based on ideals of living and to advance Christian principles on which our college was founded, Its pur- pose is to promote the general welfare of the students and faculty, to cultivate friendship and co-operation among the students and faculty members, and to encourage loyalty, personal re- sponsibility, and a high sense of honor. The Student Council constitutes the working arm of the Student Government. It as surnes the full duty of an Hono r Council in protecting the Honor Code. Lying, cheating, stealing, and failure to report a. breach of honor are considered violations of the Honor System. The Student C ouncil is composed of a president, vice-president, and secretary-treasurer with representatives from e ac h of the classes, a day student representative, the presidents of the D o rm i to ry Councils, and a student council chaplain, The Student Council nominates and requests the Dean to appoint an advisory c ommitte e of three. This committee, the Dean, and the three major officers of the Student Council constitute the Executive Council which acts in cases of emergency when it is not possible fo r the Student Council to act. of personal re sponsibility. McGinnis, Coach Barnes, The football picture at Ferrum Junior College for the 1956-57 season was, in almost eve ry case, the question of whether or not our talented but inexperienced players could hold their own against seasoned opponents. It was an up and down season fo r the Ferrum Eleven. They were constantly plagued by in- juries and insufficient reserves, - The highlight of the season was the game a gain st the Emory and Henry freshman squad, Under the fine leadership of Coach Sam Webb and Assistant Coach Carson Barnes The Black Panthers eked out a 14-13 victory. The Ferriun team wa s never beaten as badly as scores might indicate. Their worst defeat came at the hands of Mar s Hill Junior College with a. score of 34-6. The Panthers played an agressive game throughout the season, and contrary to the re c o rd , Coach Sam Webb and his boys deserved a better fate, ' Uri- Gaplains Congratulations to "Skinny" Journell upon his receiving the coveted Am e r i ca n J unio 1' College Football award.
