He has helped his students in many ways beyond the average teacher. Through his patience and understanding he helped us to realize things about ourselves which could be improved. He is well known for his famous driving lessons and the course in Bible which he taught. He not only helped us, but he also talked with us and shared his ideas. We believe Mr. Marley has defi- nitely proven he is a fine teacher, and in this small way we’d like to say — THANK YOU! 4 Mr. Marley is married and has three children. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years and then taught at Somerset High School for three years before coming to Femdale. He has been a J.V. basketball coach, a cross-country coach and is presently a golf coach. Playing golf, tennis, and teaching Sunday School are his main activities. His favorite book is the Bible. John is his favorite book within the Bible and I Corinthians 6:19 his favorite verse. What knows ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom ye have of God and ye are not your own. I Corinthians 6:19 5 Specif Junior Miss Runner-Ups: C. Hoffman and C. Es' Ending the 1974 season with a 12-4 1 record the golf team should be quite proud. This year’s team’s talent was evenly spread and no one person was relied upon too heavily. Rebounds, turnovers and baskets helped to make the girls’ basketball season a successful one. The enthusiasm of the girls was really terrific, and the coaches put much time and effort into the team’s success. The girls had a winning season with 9 wins and 1 loss to Bishop Carroll. The team was sparked by the tremendous turnout and support of the fans. Even though competition was tough, good strategy and skillful shooting gave the girls a fairly wide margin in the games they won. The players should be commended for their enthusiastic effort. Enthusiasm and winning smiles are major qualities of our cheerleaders. Bulletin boards to design, ribbons to sell, and black marks to give are all on their list of many duties. Many late hours have been spent in practice to prepare for the Altoona and Johns- town contests. The results were good in Altoona as the expectant girls stayed in competition until the last round. Everything went smoothly at the War Memorial Contest for our hostesses. The 1975 season was sparked by a majority of winning matches. The victories were partly due to many experienced return- ing lettermcn, but everyone contributed to the outstanding season through great individual effort. Under head Coach Rummel and assistant Speicher, the team prac- ticed many long hours learning skillful maneuvers and tricky holds. Each team member, both Varsity and J.V., gave his greatest effort in six minutes wrestling time while the rest of the team and enthusias- tic audience gave him overwhelming support. Despite the fact that the wrestlers were up against some tough competition, their strong determination and never ending enthusiasm led them to a fine and memorable season for F.A.H.S. 103 104 First Row: G. That’s a familiar word to any member of Student Government. Projects are varied. Ferndale celebrated its first Homecom- ing this year, and Student Government did its part by sponsoring a dance. That was followed by their annual Christmas dance. Student Government also participates in a student exchange program which ena- bles our members to visit other schools and invite others to visit FAHS. Student Government is the channel through which students may take their problems concerning faculty, administration and activities. Ferndale has students competing in prose, dramatics, poetry, informative, persuasive and extemperaneous categories. The students arc coached by Mr. George Ambroc. Huct. 131 (jcmXMt B W The haunting sound of music can be heard every eighth period Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the library and in the auditorium. These melodic sounds are coming from the music room where the concert band is practicing diligently. The members of the band play a wide range of musical selections. Under the capable leadership of Mr. Stanley Mish, musically inclined students can develop their talents. The concert band is a welcomed addition to the music program at FAHS. Pep W Stage Bcuuis From the far corner of the gym every home varsity basketball game comes the music of the pep band. Through the work of the pep band visiting teams can feel the school spirit that radiates during the games. The pep band also helps the cheerleaders during our pep rallies. The stage band, which grew out of the concert band, under the leadership of Mr. Mish, is an important part of Ferndale’s musical curriculum. Seniors: D Kevon, K Goehres, G. Korlewitz, I. Marsh, T. Covalt, T. Morihlatko, P. McCann, C. Hanik, L. Mangus, B. Coleman, S. Godcck. First and eighth periods each day the chorus can be heard throughout FAHS. These students practice diligently to provide a wide range of selections 10 their listeners. All members contribute to the Christmas program and thus enhance the Christmas spirit for all. Many moods are created daily by the tones of our high school chorus. Libr.: I Marsh. R Morihlatko, V. Pres.: B. Coleman. Pres.: T. Covalt. Sec.-Treas S. Godcck. The Art Club is comprised of students that find satisfaction in expressing themselves through art. The Art Club is open to tenth through twelfth grade students. This year the members painted a window at Glosser’s for Halloween and painted the school’s lobby windows for Christmas. Seniors L Mangus, K Edwards. N. Garrctson, D. Hammer, L Otto, J. Edwards, D. Under the direction of Mr. Wagner, these boys are always on hand to set up for assemblies, make sets for plays and work the lights. They are seldom given credit for their work because they are always behind the scenes. Seniors: D. Kcvon.J. Hyland, D Antolik. 136 Seniors ,! Peters. T. Morihlatko, Adviser: Mr. Minahan, D. Peters. B. Wyar. The Audio-Visual Department brings to the students of Femdale Area the latest of equipment, movies and film strips. Students involved work diligently to make the department as efficient as possible. Under the competent leader- ship of Mr. Minahan, the A-V department is a welcomed addition to the Fern- dale Area High School’s extra-curricular program. 137 Adviser: Mr. Boerstler. Club B Officers: Treas. K. Dillon, See. G Hajnik, V. Pres. K. Fingerhoot, Pres. G. Gor- don. The Chess Club, under the supervision of Mr. Boerstler, has become more and more popular each year. Since it was formed 7 years ago, the purpose of the club is to give the students a chance to learn, to play, and participate in the game of chess, and more important, to give them a variety of competition. This year, the club has been broken down into two smaller clubs: The Gold Knights, and the Black Knights. There is an average of thirteen members in each of the clubs. These members play tournament chess within the club and also with other schools. The club is one that lets the student pursue their hobbies and interests w’hile in school. 139 Adviser: Mr. Ambroc MO Every student in the school would like to be a member of the National Honor Society, but becoming a member is not all that easy. To be chosen, a student must maintain a grade average of 3.4. If he meets this requirement, the student’s name is presented to the members of the faculty. They vote for those students which represent the qualities of character, leadership, scholarship and service. Following the tabulated vote, the induction ceremony for inductees is very exciting and sus- pcnscful because everyone is waiting to see who has been chosen. The auditorium is dark. The only light is from the candles on the stage where the names of those deserving students are being announced. Treas.: T. Niessner, V. Pres.: M. Facciani, Sec.: K. Winters, Pres.: D. Rizzo. J. A.
