They again shifted death to make room Then tragedy struck. Poppy who had been overworking succumbed to a heart attack From then on the going was not easy because Joey the oldest boy went to medical school and Jimmy John required expensive operations When Jimmy John discovered they were selling the Pumpkin Shell because of the expenses he incurred , he ran away. Mrs Savage planned to set up her fortune in a memorial fund to allow people like her- self to do what they had always wanted She told each one of her step-children separately where the money supposedly was hidden They soon found she had deceived them. The money had really been stuffed in her teddy bear which she carried with her all the time She got her memorial fund but her step-children went without their inheritances The whole point of the play was to contrast the people of the home with Mrs Savage s step- children and the insane outside world.
