Poth clubs will advance to the state playoffs, with the Eaglettes taking on Palmetto in the first round of the playoffs. The Lady Eagles jumped out to a big 25-point halftime lead then coasted to a 57-29 win. Kim Talley led the Lady Eagles with 12 and Sheree Stewart had ll for the Lady Broncs. The Lady Eagles also fuun an easy win over the Tigerettes 51-24 as Bernetta Fontenot scored 12 points. The Lady Eagles are now 8-6 while the Tigerettes are still winless. In the girls game, the Eaglettes and Palmetto were tied at the close of the first period, but David Degeyter's team raced to a 17 point second period, and the game was never in doubt after that. Barbara Boudreaux and Kim Tally led the Fenton team, hitting 15 and nine points respectively. P Bell df City for crown . Fenton went on a tear in the last 1:37 ofthe half, outscoring Bell City six to two. Tally began .the streak, hitting' a 15 foot baseline jumper from the right side to put the Eaglettes up top, 18-6. Kristen Fruge got part of it back, hitting the front end of a one and one to make it 18-7. Gaspard and Boudreaux canned the front end of their foul shots and Fontenot got another lay-up off a steal to make it 22-7 at halftime. Fenton-Sulphur Sulphur only trailed Fenton 19-18 at the half, but the Golden Eagles came on strong in the second half. Fenton scored 40 points while holding Sulphur to only 17 points in the last two quarters. Bernetta Fontenot led the Gold Eagle scoring parade with 20 points. However t.hey rallied in the final stanza and outscored Kinder 18-13 for the win. in District 11-B, after upsetting Bell City last Tuesday night. The Lady Eagles now have to face the powerful Lacassine Cardettes in a semifinal round on Saturday. The Cardettes play tonight. Leading the Lady Eagles were Barbara Boudreaux and Kim Talley with 12 points each. Dcgcyter substituted freely in the final stanza and Fenton was able to put only six points on the hoard, but Starks did not gain ground. as they too got six. Benet Augustine and Mike Clophus added 15 and 14 in the tough Eagle squad effort. George Dowden of the Broncos led all scorers with 22 points and Randy Rials and Glenn Duhon added 11 and 10 points. Fenton remained victorious despite a 32-point fourth quarter by the Broncos. .That was accomplished by 31 points of theiumtn in the final period. The headliner in tonight's District 11-B action is the Fenton-Midland contest, The two Class B powerhouses met earlier in the year, with the Eagles putting on a last minute burst to take a 59-Sl victory. Things will be rougher this time around for Coach Richard McNabb's club, as they have to travel to unfriendly confines of the Rebel camp. McNabb hopes to get another top effort from his big man, Roland Buller, The 6-S Buller bucketed 22 points in the last outing between the last ye.ar's Class B state finalists. Fenton was idle this past Friday night, but will bring a 29-4 record into tonight's game. The Eagles are presently undefeated in loop play at five and zero, Midland is 30-8 on the year, and their only defeat in district play was at the hands of Fenton. They xarel five and one in district tactton. Fenton The powerful Fenton Eagles guided by Coach Richard McNabb find themselves in a heated battle for the District 11-B title with Midland. At this writing. Coach McNabb's team stands at 29-4 overall and five and one in district. which ties him for the loop lead with the Rebels. lt was the same team. Midland. which Fenton defeated to win the Class B title last year. McNabb is unique in that he doesn't run anyone's offense. but has three, which he created himself. Against a man-tn-man the :Eagles will go into a shuffle, that finds the 'man cutting away from the ball. This type 'offense tries to get the ball down low to big 'Roland Buller or on the high post to Buller or isomeone else. lf this isn't successful. Fenton lwill go to an offense if the defense starts to isag in the middle to stop the big kid. It is a ltype of stack, where McNabb will bring his ltwo big men out to the high post and stack them, and cut his other players off screens trying to free one for a drive inside or the shot offthe wing. r Buller is the big gun in the Eagle attack, and is scoring over 20 points per game. David Goodley and Michael Clophus are other shooters in the Eagle line-up, with Goodley, who stands at 6'1. possibly the best outside shot. The Eagle mentor will rely on Bruce McNabb to bring the ball up the floor and set Fenton whacks Tigers FENTON - The hometown Eagles upped their winning record to 15-1 Tuesday night at the further expense of the winless Lake Arthur Tigers. The Eagles again did the trick by romping past the Tigers 62-47 behind the 18-point performance of Ro- land Buller and 17-point output of Michael Clophus. David Goodley added 11 points. Claude Charles of the Tigers pumped in 24 for the visitors but it was to no avail. David Goodley got 18 points to lead the Golden Eagles, and Bruce McNabb picked up 13 tallies to aid Goodley. Fenton jumped to an earlyt first period lead, 20-6. up the Eagle offense. The Eagles get strong board work from Buller, Clophus, and Calvert Lemonia. Should Fenton win the district outright, tltey will play either Palmetto or Morrow from District 12-B.
