Pri- marily, they wanted to be number one in the league, and secondly, they wanted to go through the season without being scored against. The Washington Patriots, however, quickly shattered the team's dream. However, the Eagles were undaunted and came back to crush Puyallup 42 to 14 the following week. During the next five games, the Eagle's powerful Sophomore's allowed a mere six points to be scored against them while they scored an amazing 79 points. They ended the season with 6 wins and 'I loss and first place in the S.P.S.L. Competition. Highline school district is head of the O.S.C. program, which is located in a building on the west side of the airport. The objective of O.S.C., which is comprised of six programs, is to give those students who enroll in it, entry level job training for em- ployment in the field they have chosen. There are three credits earned per semester towards graduation.'If a student misse's more than six days during the same time period, he is excused from the program. Bussing is offered to afternoon O.S.C. goers, picking them up at 10:35 and returning them to their schools at 2:15. Production Plastics is for those interested in working with fiber- glass. There is a constant demand throughout the Puget Sound area for,qualified employees. Students who wish further training in fields such as registered nursing, a li- censed practical nurse, physical occupational therapy, inhalation, therapist or x-ray technician, might enroll in the Medical As- sistant-Clerical Program. Com- mercial Sewing is especially help- ful for those who wish to work as a power machine operator. These operators usually work in firms producing recreational wear and equipment li.e. De- metre, Sports-Caster, and Trager.l The Visual Communications pro- gram has two main objectives: 1. To train young people for an entry level job in commercial art, offset painting, photography, or close circuit T.V., andfor prepare them for pursuing additional training in one of these fields after they complete High School. This is a two year program and those juniors satisfactorily com- pleting the first year are en- couraged to come back to spe- cialize in one of the four areas of their choice. Commercial Foods is organized around a daily restaurant operation which serves the students and faculty. The stu- dents rotate through each phase of the curriculum, learning all parts of restaurant operation from cooking to waiting on tables. Mr. Root will be retiring after 25 years of dedi- cated service to FWHS. Mr. Root came to Federal Way in 1949 and has remained here since. Aside from his present office, he has been assistant prin- cipal, counselor, and teacher. Mr. Root has had a varied edu- cation and career. ln college he majored in English, Social Studies, French and minored in Lating all of which he has taught. He worked for General Electric, and was in the Navy as an Chap- lain's Assistant and organist. Fol- lowing the Navy he returned to college for an additional degree in music and a Masters Degree in Administration and Guidance. Playing the piano and organ, photography, stamp collecting, and gardening are interests which Mr. Root is looking forward to devoting more time. Continued activity in church and commu- nity affairs are also a must for Mr. Root, as he has worked dili- gently for the betterment of the community. Upon retirement the Root's are looking forward to traveling through Greece, the Holyland, and Africa.
