The Pirates started slow, but went on to win by a 27-O score. We can do it were the words on every Pirate's lips as they went up against the strong Mount Hope Mustangs , who were favored to win by 2 or 3 T, D's. And they did it! The Pirates played circles around the Mustangs and registered a 14-13 victory. The Gauley Bridge Travellers were next for the Pirates as they invaded Pirate -town the following week. Both teams played good ball, although the Pirates did muff a couple of good scoring chances, and the game ended in a 0-0 score. Traveling to Oak Hill for the annual Grid-contest was next for the Pirates , Oak Hill appeared to have just a little too much for the Arrittmen , who held the Devils scoreless for a half, but finally went down by a 21-0 count. The Ansted Highlanders formed the opposition the next week, and everyone was wondering of the Pirates would get back in the win column. The first half ended in a 0-0 tie, but the second half spelled murder as the Pirates scored 30 points and won by a 30-0 score. The Lookout, Generals came to Fayetteville the next weekand proved to be stiff competition for a half, but the Pirates won No. 4 by a 20-0 score. It was Homecoming for the Pirates when the Montgomery Grey- hounds invaded the Pirate-lair . The Seamen proved to be all the Hounds could handle and put up a real battle, but finally lost by a 12-0 score. Nevertheless, Montgomery knew they had been in a battle all the way. The Pirates were loaded when they met the Summerville Grizz- lies, on the latter's home field, as they won the game by a 25-6 score. The Richwood Lumberjacks must have brought the weather with 'hem as they came to Fayetteville. The Pirates in the rain scored in the second quarter and led at the half by a 7-0 score. When the boys came out for the second half, someone was playing Jingle Bells , and the snow was pouring dovsm. The l..u.mberjacks scored and tiedthe score at 7-7, and that's the way it stayed. Shady Springs came to Fayetteville for the final game of the season. Determined to beat the Pirates they scored on the kickoff, and they really got the Pirates Irish up as they went ona rampage and won by a 34-19 score. The season is Over and many have played their last game under GREEN and WHITE. The boys posted a 6 won, Z loss, 2 tie season- th best in a long time for Fayetteville. So, to the boys and their coache Fletcher Arritt and David Hypes, goes a saying of WELL. DONE.
