CHAMPICDNS The l945 football season ns a pleasant one to recall We were gunnnng for our thnrd consecutuve champnonshap We started nght oft the toe by upsettnng the East Syracuse eleven 39 O The next week we met Skan eateles on our own field and rumbled over them to the tune of 26 O For our thnrd game we had Arch bold Stadnum at our dnsposal Although the Bald wnnsvllle team outwenghed us we ran up a 26 O score agann The Luverpool boys gave us a scare when we played host to them on our tneld They ganned the lead sn the latter stages of the game and there was quite some flngernanl chewlng until we Inter cepted a pass and regarned the lead Thus we held tall the end of the game The Lrverpool club was the only one to score upon us all season For our next game we traveled to the hulls of Marcellus We came away from a scrappy team wnth o I3 O vnctory agaun When the next week rolled around we found ourselves standing knee deep nn mud and water as guests ot Solvay After much sknddung tallnng and duvung the game ended The last week of our season was cllmaxed wuth the North Syracuse tray The champnonshup hanged on the outcome of thus contest North Syracuse had to beat us to wnn the champuonshnp whereas we needed only to tue them to retasn our tutle As the large crowd could plainly see the opposlng team was out to wan The crowd really saw action that day as the North Syracuse eleven was rebuffed time after tlme In nts attempts to master the srtuatuon The plucky Fayettevulle eleven stood luke a brnck wall agannst the gannless attacks for three peruods Then when the North Syracuse club had slackened the Purple and White took up the march and started a steam roller drnve from the for end ot the tueld rnght over the North Syracuse goal lnne Wnth the extra pount counting the score stood at 7 O at the termnnotuon ot the game A hard won champlonshnp had been achieved so the team carrned Coach and the managers unto the showers tor a good soaknng The Fayetteville Fare Department staged a ban quet for the team at the culmrnatnon ot a great season lBy the way the managers receuved tea and toast as a turst course l At the banquet the Fnre men gave Coach a tur luned packet whsle the team gave htm a trophy To Mrs Montorte the turst lady of the team went a war bond Thus was nn appreciation ot her motherly Interest toward the team dunng nts stay at Mac s camp at the begun nnng ot the season and tor the many tumes she has opened her home to the boys Certrfncates for letters were presented at thus time and the gold tootballs were presented at a school assembly nn February We extend best washes to Coach and has com :ng champnonshnp teams I I - ' - I A 11 11 I I - I I - ' I - . , ' I I I Il ll . - ' ' ' . .... .
