BAND With a membership of 140, the Fayetteville High School band, under the direction of Mr. R. W. Willis, has had its most successful year. Band activities began September 27 with the group playing for the weekly foot- ball games. Home games which they played for included Alun, Siloam Springs, Hunts ville, Springdale, and Fort Smith. The Band took trips to play at the games in Bent- onville and Van Buren. They mere also guest performers at the University of Arkansas' homecoming game, November 16. and also provided music for the basketball games. The spring semester was begun with the band s second annual banquet which was held January 20. The band attended the Band Clinic at Siloam Springs January 30 and February J, the State Clinic at the University of Arkansas February lb, and 15, and the State District Clinic in Fayetteville April 12, a concert presented by the beginner's, junior, and senior bands on February l8,a music festival at Fort Smith on March 111. f JL 7 ' r G - ks f-,gnu Sill ll. sk 70 ' r I ,f JM Serving FHS by arousing school spirit, the band played for several pep rallies, ,' '0f r'-'-ffl I 4 'IIIIIIIW-K K L val were the Participating in the Fort Smith Festi junior and senior bands, brass sextet composed of Don 5 ., Mitchell, Fred Shaffer, Carolyn Hammond, Bobby Conine, A and John Paul Runyang the band soloists,Mar'y Ann Maddox, cf , ' Donna Harris, Donna Canfield, Charles McFarland, Doris ' 3 Hooker, and Phillip Colvrell.
