on H 811111135 fall 11101111118 111 1930 a group of small six-year-o ds met for their first time in a class room Twenty of that group will be graduated this spring Many have joined our class and many have left it since that first year We completed our first six years of education in the spring of 1936 an were ready to begin our high school career In the fall of the same year, we started climbing the steep hill ahead of us and today, as seniors, we have almost reached the top Throughout the years, various members of the class have distinguished them selves by their different talents and interests Some of our boys who have become well known in school because of their action on the gridiron are Jeffie Lawrence, who was captain this year, Milton Sterman, Jimmie Allen, Billy Bragg Horace Jay are Russell Newman and Hoyt Sims Bruce Hankins is known throughout the class for his shyness The scholastic averages of Sarah laude Johnson, the valedictorian, and Othelia Otts, salutatorian, were so nearly perfect that we shall always remember these girls for their intellectual abilities louis Moore, business manager for both the Echo and Tiger Rag, will always be re embered for his intelligence and good nature Ethel Shirley McGuff, one of the most outstanding members of our class will long remain ln our memory Her remarkable personality and her many and various talents musician, actress, orator, and executive are a combination very seldom found in one person Others who are well knoln for their musical abilities are Emily Dean Rose, a graduate in music, Kathleen Cannon, and Kathleen Newton Jo Ann Caine who always has a friendly smile and cheery words for everyone, will long be remembered for her pleasant disposition Jimmie Allen, president of the class, and 'assistant director' of the band, will be reme bered for his calm executive manner and his clarinet Some of our classmates are romantically inclined These Romeos and Iuliets who have become known as pairs because they are seen together so much are Wynelle 50 ca d . . . z 9 Leonard Hodgesg and Bruce Hankins. The boys who have won popularity in basketball

Mitchell and Jimmie Allen Yeuell Herren and Wilma Blackburn, and Della Jane Cannon and Harold Gibson The class has presented two plays The Junior Play was 'Here Comes Hattien, and the Senior Play was 'A Ready Made Family W Both plays proved to be great sue cesses Members of the class taking part in both plays are Sarah Maude Johnson Othelia Otts, Jean Patterson, Wynelle Mitchell The Tiger Rag has continued to reign in popularity with the students This year an award was given by the Tiger Rag to the outstanding basketball player of the current season That award was made to Junior Hobbs The Echo has upheld the motto given to this publication by Arthur Wright in 1939 'Each year, bigger and better During our twelve years of education we have learned to overcome many difficul ties We are grateful to our parents and our kind and faithful teachers for the opportunities they have made possible for us We shall always remember them for their ever enduring patience and wise counsel This graduating class of seventy nine students leaves Fayette County High School to go higher still, but we shall never forget the happy school days spent together STATISTICS In April of the year 1942, there were 79 students graduated from Fayette County born in Fayette County, outside the city limits and of the others, 19 were born various parts of the state Three were born in other states Mississippi, Louisiana, and Oklahoma The average height of the boys is 5'9', the average weight of the boys is 150 pounds The average height of the girls is 5'4 ', the average weight of the girls is 121 pounds The average age of the class is 18 The shortest person in the class is 5'l' and the tallest person is 6'2in The lightest student weighs 96 pounds and the heaviest weighs 196 pounds 11 boys and 16 girls plan to attend college N 51 o 2 , --U 'n High School.
