For the second successive year, Coach Bruce Little returned to coach the Fayette Tigers in their most successful season in seventeen years A remarkable record of eight victories and one tie was achieved against tough competition With three of their t ammat l t d th Al -S the Tigers received much pgaise 2: ggvgggeongnof the gtrggggsgoggggglgngzlgbggaliat' The powerhouse trio of Captain Ieffie Lawrence, Alternate Captain Lawrence Ellis and Horace Jay won renown far and wide Seldom does one find such varied talents as were displayed by these boys Much of the success of the Tigers' '41 machine was due to a line that was as im pregnahle as lacArthur's defense of Batan Peninsula Sam Renfroe, Bobby Taylor an William Lynch were consistently moving the line of their opposing team to the back field In this respect, Sam lBol Renfroe earned the name of a punt blocker Rarely a game was played that Renfroe failed to block a punt On the wings, Iinnde Allen and Bill Cannon provided a sure fire attack that rarely ever failed to put a game on ice The two guards, Hilton Sterman and William lynch, were mainly responsible for forming that wedge into the opposing line that made it possible for our backs to slip through for great gains Jeffie Lawrence, who was selected captain by his teamn tes, proved himself a cap able leader and worthy of the confidence vested in him A very dismal outlook was held by all at the beginning of the season because of the absence of some of the mainstays of the year before By looking at a short resume of the games played we get a picture of the prowess of the 1941 Tigers The Tigers lost little time in starting the victory ball rolling when Renfroe blocked a punt and after a few plays Jay went over following that Jay, Ellis, and B Bragg took turns in running where they pleased Jay again scored and Ellis scored twice, :nd Bragg converted twice for a 26 to 0 victory TTGERS'HM1HDB HUBBE TVILBE 2 0 The second game of the season was the same old story B Bragg, Jay, and Ellis, but it was a lin mam, William Lynch, who provided the spectacular play in blocking a punt and falling on it for 2 points Ellis scored twice, Jay once, and the ends, Cantrell and Allen, once each TIGERS ROLL OVER H LLPORT 7 0 As a warm-up game for Carbon Hill, the Fayette Tigers completely outplayed lillport to score at least two touchdowns each quarter Every member of the backfield scored at least once, but three lineman also scored, making a total of 71 points 55 4-7 U . , d FAYETTE--26 VENON--0 5-- . . .
