PREFACE History of the Dictionary. The NEW KALIHI KE KIAAINA DICTIONARY, 1975 Edition, is an entirely new Work. Its newness does not represent a break from the past but rather a change in format. It is a record of the language and events to meet the imagination and reminiscence of each high school scholar. Some facts have been rearranged to add to the color of the events. Illustrations have been carefully chosen as aids to the definitions of scholastic life. The editor, special editors, and spe- cial consultants have had available the outstanding examples of past books and histories, infamous purveyors of gossip, and artists-in-residence of Room 116. It is impossible to thank adequately all who helped in this cooperative ef- fort, but We are especially grateful to the kids of Kalihi who provide the dia- lect, action, and color for this project.
