g91lC5h 'football AGUCH1 HENH LN KAW Y KUSU Coach C0805 NOKI W JAMES MITCHELL Athletic Director The 1949 edition of the senior eleven coached by Henry Kusunoki won three and lost iour games in the Interscholastic league Rated seventh in pre season predictions the team came up fifth in the league standing at the end of the season with a win over Phnahou be ing the most startling upset Much credit goes to the line which performed exceptionally well in keeping the lanes clear for the backfield The line was as good as last year s but the backfield was practically new with little experi ence Riddled with injuries or out breaks of colds the team was not in full strength except for their first game with Punahou Losing such backfield stars as Ken Kahoonei Danny Garcia and Fred Mamiya to mention a few he team did not have a strong running attack and had to rel on passes to do the trick. Alwa s favoring a wide open type of football with lots of passing and deceptive plays the team was hard to beat in all their games The team played good, clean and inspired football all through the season and the student body cheered their fine spirit in all games. Kaae this IS a football game, not a wrestling match. 121
