Captain John W. Heard On the riiie range, every cadet had the opportunity to apply the principles of good marksmanship. How well these were applied was amply demonstrated by the commendable showing of the cadet rifle team in inter- scholastic competition. And not to be outdone by the boys, the girls also formed a rifle team. Cadets received instruction in map reading, hygiene and first aid, military organization, infantry tactics, and infantry weapons, customs and courtesies. The climax of the yearly program was the formal Military Ball at Maluhia, Fort De Russey where cadets with their best girls joined in a Grand March and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of a military social. FUMIO KIDO HAROLD HAYAKAWA KENNETH SHINN President First Vice President Second Vice President After a period of wartime in activity, the Farrington alumni association has again resumed its role, of bringing Far- rington high school closer to the Kalilii community. Heading the Alumni association for I9-17-48 was Fumio Kido. Other officers were: Harold Hayakawa, Kenneth Shinn, and Robert Masuda, lirst, second and third vice presidents respectivelyg Eloise Koba- yashi. recording secretaryg Winifred Chang, corresponding secretaryg Gilbert Kurosu, treasurerg and Ethel Hayakawa, assistant treasurer. Under the editorship of Eloise Kobaya- shi and the help of the class of '46, the Alumni News began its monthly appear- ance in October, 1947. In sports, the Alumni started a bowling league in january with Donald Ching as chairman. Games were played at the Watikiki Bowling Alley. To raise funds for the War Memorial swimming pool, the association, under the co-chairmanship of Masao Yamasaki and Nathan Hashimoto, sponsored the second post-war Merry-Go-Round in February.
