P r 'x ..-.pn .iv ---..a,,,i, . f 1 13 X. is Mariner The Mariner Ship Commodore is part of the Girl Scouts of Oahu and was organized in 1946 with 30 members in the girls section of the S.S.S. Commodore. Their purpose is to help girls understand and love the sea and its crafts, and to realize the ideals of womanhood by lixing the high ideals of character, conduct and attainment. Besides hiking, sailing, and beach parties, the Mariners held a benefit dance in October and! participated in community work. Officers of the ship were: Boat- swain, Annie Park, Yeomen, Bea- trice Chung Assistant Yeomen, Mary Chinen and Mildred Naka- harag Crew Leaders were Dolores Alibang and Mildred Takeshita. lm Sophomore Y-Teens The Sophomore Teensters, a Y-teen club, started their first year with 55 members. They constantly worked toward their goal to grow in friendship with people of all races, religions, and nationalities. Miss Sueko Kage- yama, associate program director of the YWCA, and Miss janet Sakai, science teacher, were advisers. During the Christmas season girls made leis, favors, and menu covers to help the Red Cross. This lucky group accompanied the Imua Lanakilas to camp at Hale- kipa. Photo Club Continuing energetically in the face of eviction from its quarters in F-l, the Photo club increased in size to -14 shutterbugs. Under the instructions of Law- rence Elco, Kenneth Higa, and james Naylon, novices learned how to take pictures, develop film, print negatives, and enlarge pic- tures. Activities of the year included an October initiation party, lectures by professional photographers, and weekend field trips to many parts on the island.
