Bill Phillips led the attack with a magnificent 45 yard sprint into the endzone for Farrell's only touchdown in the game. For their first home game of the season the Riders welcomed the New Castle Hurricanes. The Farrell defense stole the spotlight but the Hurricane eleven took advantage of three Rider miscues and went on to defeat the home team 17-0. Eager to gain a victory the Farrell Riders traveled to meet the South Hills Catholic Rebels. Farrell’s only tally of the game as Bill Phillips took the opening second half kickoff and raced 93 yards into paydirt. The score: 6-6. In the following contest the Farrell Night Riders were put up against the mighty Hopewell Vikings. Touchdowns were scored by Elliot Brockman on a 25 yard pass from Glenn Crosby and by Jim Falconi who ran 54 yards down the sideline and by a 16 yard burst around his left end. However, the Viking attack was too strong and Farrell lost the game 38-20. In the mid season game Farrell met the Butler High Tornadoes. The Riders scored on three brilliant runs but fell short of the victory 21-18. Farrell’s next competitive game was with the Beaver Falls Tigers. The Riders fought with all their might but the Tiger attack was too much as they defeated our Riders 42-6. Blaine Wilder acted as the sparkplug of the team as he dashed into the endzone with a 16 yard pass from quarterback Glenn Crosby. The Riders notched their first win of the season with an impressive 35-14 victory. The Farrell gridders forced four fumble turnovers, blocked two punts, intercepted two passes and time after time sacked the Ellwood quarterback in an outstanding display of talent. Hoping to stay on the victory trail the Riders traveled to meet the Ambridge High Bridgers. Farrell almost brought home their second win but in the final quarter the Bridgers ripped the lid off the game with a 20 point barrage enroute to a 27-7 victory. The Riders closed out their 1974 football campaign with a bitterly fought 14-9 decision in favor of the Sharon Tigers. Farrell’s touchdown and a safety were both the results of blocked punts. The first came as Terry Gregory recovered the kick and Bill Phillips bolted over the front line into paydirt. Farrell lit up the board for the final time with a two-point safety as Frank Holloway and Riley Smoot blocked a kick which bounced into the endzone. The Farrell Night Riders closed their season with a record of 1-7-1. Even though the Night Riders had a rough season this year, we would like to commend the team members and coaches for putting forth their greatest effort. Aliquippa New Castle S. The Steelers copped their 10th W.P.I.A.L. championship by smashing South Hills Catholic by a score of 52-41. It seemed that nothing could stop the Steelers as they continued to defeat Warren 58-39, but finally the Jeannette Jayhawks took advantage of some Steeler miscues and Farrell’s hope of the state title vanished. Even though our Steelers didn’t make it to the state finals we’d like to say congratulations to the team for winning another W.P.I.A.L. pennant and for an outstanding season with a record of 24-4. Farrell was defeated 63-47 in their opener and also in the next two following contests by Nanicoke 63-49. and Youngstown East 56-50. The Steelers copped their first victory of the season with a 63-61 decision over the Johnstown Trojans. Cornelius Holmes led the rally with 19 points. In the next game Dave Sudzina and Clarence Gilchrist with 21 points and 22 points respectively broke the annual jinx against the Steelers with great performances and defeated the Boardman Spartans 75-58. Farrell won the opening game of the Ralph Dresch Memorial Tourney by defeating the Ursuline Irish 39-37. but in the championship game Bishop McNamera came out on top 60-45. Dave Sudzina was high scorer for the two nights with a combined total of 31 points. The Steelers opened their 1975 Section III competition against the Ambridge Bridgers. Time ran out for Farrell however, and after two overtime periods Ambridge defeated the Steelers 53-51. Farrell boosted their Section III record in the two following games by defeating New Castle 57-41 and Blackhawk 53-35. Farrell kept on the victory trail by clipping the Ellwood City Wolverines in a low scoring game 28-24, but in the next outing the Steelers hit hard luck and lost to the Butler Tornadoes 42-29. Next, a tough defensive performance by the Steelers lifted their league standings to 4-2 as they mangled the Beaver Falls Tigers 69-56. Midway through Section play the Steelers encountered the Sharon High Tigers. Disappointment met the Farrell quintet and Sharon came out on top 55-38. In a non-league contest with the Altoona Mountain Lions. Gilchrist. Sudzina. and Miodrag all hit double figures with 15. 14. and 12 points respectively despite losing the game 61-55. Back to league play the Steelers tangled with the Ambridge Bridgers. Foul trouble and turnovers marred the Steelers hope of the victory despite Brian Sander's 19 points. The score: 68-52. Playing host to the New Castle Hurricanes Farrell once again fell short of a victory and lost the game 45-40. The Steelers snapped a four-game losing streak by defeating the Blackhawk Cougars. Sharp-shooter Steve Miodrag paced the winners with 22 tallies. In the next two contests Farrell went on the revenge trail as they dumped Ellwood City 62-39 and Butler 55-45. Dave Sudzina was high scorer with 20 points against the Tornadoes. On the road for the final time Farrell traveled to Beaver Falls only to meet defeat against the Tigers 59-55. The Steelers closed out their cage season with the annual classic basketball contest with the Sharon Tigers. Farrell led throughout the entire game but in the final minutes the Tigers came back and beat the Steelers 50-44. Steve Miodrag fired in 14 points with Cornelius Holmes right behind with 13 tallies. The Steelers finished their season with a record of 10 wins and 12 losses. Congratulations to the entire team for a hard fought and exciting season. We also want to bid farewell to the only senior and letterman of the 1974-75 team, Dave Sudzina. who put forth strength, determination, and courage in effort to make a successful season.KNEELING; 1. to r.. Throughout the year the juniors and seniors have long awaited this glorious night. On May 17. the Farrell students entered the high school gymnasium into the carefree atmosphere of “Rocky Mountain High." A gigantic mountain flourished with flowers and topped with a quaint log cabin was the center of attention of all the students. Romantic music by Joe Cann’s Orchestra enhanced a festive atmosphere as the couples danced until midnight, when they took out just enough time to eat a buffet style luncheon. As the night progressed, the atmosphere changed to the fantastic sound of “Wes Quentin Experience." The couples danced on and on hoping the night would never end. It was soon dawn and the tired couples, filled with happiness, put the memories of the evening’s events in the treasure chest of their hearts.
