Bonnie Snider Billy Scott Delores Parks Edwin Kearns 37 CLASS SONG W CLASS POEM Dear Farmer High, the time has come, Friendships were formed in '51- T0 bid farewell I0 YOU- This has brought us all together. These lovely years have flown away, Togerherr-,ess was our aim and is Our dreams have all come true. Echoed yer, On this our graduation day, We think of days gone by, Through the eight grammar grades The lessons learned, the friends we sped we've made, And Freshmen we all becameg Sweet memories untold. So awkward were we all This day has come so swiftly on With hopes to win much fame. Four years have passed us by--- Our thoughts of many memories For twelve years we've worked hard, are lost in future plans. But these years have been our timeg Some here will stay in this our town, We thank the people for all they've done Others will go away--- In making these years worthwhile. Then friends are lost but happiness Lives on and on today. We're glad that the time has come For we as Seniors will lead the way. Song Writer, This is our aim now, Marty Meadows Our goal is not far away. Our past is a reality, our future a CLASS COLORS: Red and white dfsafm With these things in mind We leave the class of '63. Red and white carnation CLASS HISTORY In August 1959, we the class of 1963 entered High School. We were very eager to investigate our new sur- roundings: however, we were somewhat shy of the thought of being "Green Freshmen." Our advisors were Mrs Ersal Garner and Mr. Curtis McCombs. We elected as our class officers: Wayne Hardister, Presidentg Bonnie Hoover, Vice President: Delores Parks, Secretaryg Bonnie Snider, Treasurerg and Betty Loflin, Reporter. Our Freshman year was filled with work but we found time for a few outside activities. In 1960 we became Sophomores. Our class officers were: Donald Strider, Presidentg Billy Scott, Vice President: Gary Fields, Secretary: Lloyd Morgan, Treasurer: Linda Lassiter and Delores Parks, Reporters. Mr. Eli Smith and Mr. C. C. Hancock were our advisors. Those receiving the honor of being tapped into the Beta Club were: Jane Hill, Juanita Hunt, Myrtle Hunt, Linda Lassiter, Betty Loflin, Judy Myers, Vicki White, Martha York, Lloyd Morgan, and Wayne Hughes. Among our activities this year was a trip to the State Fair. In the fall of 1961 we returned as Juniors. We were greatly aware of the responsibilities ahead of us. Our advisors were Miss Loberta McNeill and Mr. Earl Hill. Our class officers were Wayne Hardister, President Linda Lassiter, Vice Presidentg Bonnie Snider, Secretaryg Myrtle Hunt, Treasurerg Judy Myers and Gary Fields, Reporters. The person who received the honor of being tapped into the Beta Club was Phyllis Miller. We began our plans on the Junior- Senior Banquet early. On April 13, at the National Guard Armory in Asheboro, this event took place. Another great occasion was the ordering of our class rings, which we were to receive after becoming Seniors. As a part of graduation the Juniors carried archways for Class Night. We also sang our class song to the Seniors. We were sorry to see the Seniors leave, but we were proud of the fact that we would replace them the following year as Seniors. We returned as Seniors in August, 1962. We were very much aware of the task ahead of us. We were proud of our class rings for we felt we had earned the honor of wearing them. Our class officers were Linda Lassiter, Presidentg Susan Lowe, Vice Presidentg Wayne Hardister, Secretaryg Juanita Hunt, Treasurerg and Judy Myers and Gary Fields, Reporters. Our advisors were Miss Dorothy Langston and Mr. Robert Allen, Our greatest task was that of publishing the "Far Echoes," The annual staff worked very hard in order to make this yearbook the best ever published. Plans for the selling of magazines, the Halloween Carnival, our trip to Washington, and graduation have kept us busy. We have been a part of Farmer for twelve years. We have shared our fortunes and misfortunes with everyone. We are saddened very much by the thought of leaving Dear 'Ole Farmer High, though we must be brave and face the future unafraid. To the teachers, parents, and friends who have so graciously lent us a helping hand, we wish to express our sincerest gratitude. As we part, each in his own direction, we are fully aware of our indebetedness to our school. We shall strive to repay this debt by our service to our Lord and to mankind. Poem Writer, Barbara Martin Wayne Hardister Historian CLASS PROPHECY One day I say down and thought to myself "I wonder what everyone in the clas of '63 will be doing 10 years from now. As I was thinking, I must have dozed off. It all came to me in a dream. My dream was that: Lela Mae Farlow and Clara Hughes were running their own recording studio for Red Skelton and Groucho Marx. Carol Parrish had a nursery going. She was making 20 dollars a day keeping Johnny Allmon and Judy Pierce's children. Johnny Hinson was running a well- managed and profitable dairy. Joe King had an offer to play professional football whenever his knee got better. Juanita Hunt was a Latin professor at Williams University at Flint Hill. Gwen Hunt, a novelist, planned to retire after she finished her tenth novel. Jane Hill was an airline hostess, for Eastern Airlines. She waslto quit soon because she was marrying an old acquaintance. Gwen Cranford had been fired from her position as head nurse at Blair General Hospital for chasing the men patients. Penny Suratt and Phyllis Miller were the owners of the Red Dog Dance Studio. Susan Lowe and Barbara Martin were the only two patients in Dix Hill who owned Thunderbirds. Linda Lassiter was attending an art academy in California. Voncil Kindley and her husband were running several greenhouses. Reita Briles Perdue and her husband owned Austin Textiles in New York. Linda Bell and Carl Sawyer were the only tenants in the Jackson's Creek Hotel operated by Bonnie Snider and Nathan Cagle. Sarah Steelman and her husband Larry were beach- combers. Jean Lanier and Virginia Varner were running an old country store. Martha Allmon and her husband were the managers of the Better Life Store in Asheboro. Patsy McBride was owner and managing her own beauty shop. After getting a Master's degree at Appalachian State Teachers College, Wayne Hardister was a professor at New Hope University. Donna Easter and her husband, Harold, were just before leaving on their long awaited honeymoon. Their only problem was what to do with their 5 children. Verna Hughes was coaching the World's Number I girls basketball team, the Hughes Tigers. Myrtle Hunt and Martie Meadows were in the slab- hauling business. Myrtle did all the driving because Martie STILL hasn't got her driver's license. Anne Harris and Delores Parks had their own fac- tory and were making teddie bears. Betty Loflin was an army nurse. She followed her husband around expecting him to get hurt at any time. Judy Myers was running a garage in her husband's back yard. She specialized on hot rods. Lloyd Morgan was still picking up those blues at the State Fair for showing cows. David Harris was coon hunting for a living and worked in his spare time. Dale Cranford and Larry Skeen were co- owners of a profitable liquor still in New Hope. Betty Cranford was empolyed by the Coca-cola Company as a co-driver of a truck. She hoped to get her own truck within a week. Richard Smith and James Rich had their own show on Broadway. It was called Laugh-A- While. They specialized on imitating frogs. Wayne Hughes had finally made up his mind to teach after farming unsuccessfully for six years and was attending High Point College. V After attending a special school for airline pilots Edwin Kearns had won a new name. His new name was Pan American Bugs. Billy Scott and Eddie Steere had again won the gold medal at the World Olympics at Yogsville. This was the 10th time this team had won the gold medal for tongue popping. Larry Kindley and Gary Fields were finishing up the brick work on a rabbit barn on which they had been working for a long time.
