. pq .fl Girls' Swimming Since there is no interscholastic competition in girls' athletics to bring the fair sex into the limelight, it is easy to forget that our school has groups of girls doing interesting and useful work. Among these is the girls' swimming group which in addition to swimming, diving. and underwater work, learns functional swimming, life saving, accident prevention, incidental first aid, and resuscitation. The girls also receive training in aquacade swimming, camp counselor work, methods of swimming for the handicapped, mass teaching, and class organization. The .lunior Counselors' group consists of girls who have good academic standing and character references from four faculty members, and who can swim 250 yards using good form for all strokes, and can do underwater swimming. Uutstanding Junior Counselors make up the swimming team-also known as the Speedsters. Under supervision, these girls act as life guards during class sessions, coach groups, assist with specialized swimming for the handicapped, assist with life saving classes, and attend to the costuming, preparation, and presentation of all aquacades. The wonderful work done by Mrs. Wanna R. Eagle for handicapped girls has brought fame to Far Rockaway, and on occasions when members of the Board of Education and of the medical profession come to see what is being done, it is the members of the girls' swimming team who present all demonstrations.
