SENIOR CLASS HISTORY That wonderful year we hope you'll see. The past reappear like a memory, We'll show you the way it used to be, Remember...........? Yes, it was that wonderful year of 1961, when we, as freshmen, boldly marched up the walk into the now familiar edifice known as Falls City High School. You remember that year, our sponsors were Miss Ehernberger, and Mr. Peterson. For our class officers then we chose John Martin, President; Mike Castle, Vice-President; Lucinda Glenn, Secretary-Treasurer; Linda Posey and Jim Prater were on the Activities Committee. To show what a promising young class we were, the following students made the Honor Roll: Linda Arnold, Debbie Bacakos, Kay Duey, Charlene German, Joe Gist, Lucinda Glenn, Barbara James, Tom James, Neeld Messier, Bill Nelson, Linda Saal, Katy Schweickert, Pegeen Swisegood, Janet Werner, and Carol Zimmerman. Lettering in Band were Terry Grush, Janice Kelly, Charlene German, Dana Karsten, Keith Arnold, Harvey Koenig, Tom James, and Cheryl Brecht. Joe Gist lettered in golf that year and John Martin lettered in football. Going to the District Music Contest for use were Keith Arnold, Trula Buckminster, Muriel Byrom, Cheryl Enge, Charlene German, Kay Hardt, Judy Heinzelman, Barbara James, Tom James, Dana Karsten, Janice Kelly, Donna Kirkendall, Janice McNeely, Sally Roberts, Jane Tubach, Terry Grush, Harvey Koenig, and Andrea Zentner. We had also learned how much fun it was to be freshmen; but after a three month's vacation, we were ready to start our second wonderful year—as sophomores. This year our class sponsors were Miss Fase, Miss Shook, and Mr. Graves. For a good class administration, we chose the following class officers: Tom James, President; Bob Stone, Vice-President; Carol Zimmerman, Secretary-Treasurer; Andrea Zentner and John Martin were on the Activities Committee. Leading our class in the eyes of the world were the following Honor Roll students: Linda Arnold, Kay Duey, Barbara James, Tom James, Judy Jilek, Charlene German, Neeld Messier, Bill Nelson, Linda Saal, Pegeen Swisegood, Gary Taylor, Janet Werner, and Carol Zimmerman. Also, going to the Peru Scholastic Contest were Judy Jilek, Bill Nelson, Linda Posey, Linda Saal, Janet Werner, and Carol Zimmerman. Going to the District Music Contest this year were Keith Arnold, Debbie Bacakos, Patricia Bindrum, Cheryl Brecht, Trula Buckminster, Muriel Byrom, Mike Castle, Marliss Cramer, Beverly Duerfeldt, Kay Duey, Bill Dyblie, Jon Fisher, Charlene German, Terry Grush, Kay Hardt, Judy Heinzelman, Barbara James, Tom James, Judy Jilek, Dana Karsten, Janice Kelly, Donna Kirkendall, Harvey Koenig, Dennis Koso, Carol Malick, John Martin, Janice McNeely, Neeld Messier, Sally Roberts, April Rogers, Linda Saal, Pegeen Swisegood, Jane Tubach, Joe Van Seggern, Janet Werner, and Andrea Zentner. Our athletes were in better shape this year. Those receiving letters were Mike Castle in basketball; Jon Fisher, track; Larry Gatz, football; Joe Gist, golf; Louis Hansen, track; Phil Marsh, track; and John Martin, football and track. After another three months vacation we entered Falls City High for the first time as upper-classmen. Our co-sponsors this year were Mrs. Kommer and Mrs. Lunsford. Since we were now becoming important, we carefully chose the following class officers: John Martin, President; Bill Nelson, Vice-President; Lucinda Glenn, Secretary; Janet Werner, Treasurer; Janice McNeely and Marliss Cramer, Activities. Again we had an outstanding Honor Roll: Keith Arnold, Linda Arnold, Trula Buckminster, Kay Duey, Charlene German, Joe Gist, Lucinda Glenn, Barbara James, Tom James, Judy Jilek, Dana Karsten, Janice Kelly, Stanley Linderman, Carol Malick, John Martin, Gale Merz, Neeld Messier, Martha Runyan, Linda Saal, Katy Schweickert, Pegeen Swisegood, Gary Taylor, Janet Werner, Bill Nelson, and Carol Zimmerman. Those attending the Peru Scholastic Contest were Lucinda Glenn, Barbara James, Tom James, John Martin, Neeld Messier, Bill Nelson, Janice Kelly, Linda Saal, Janet Werner, and Carol Zimmerman. Again we turned out in numbers for the District Music Contest. We presented our class play. Our Hearts Were Young and Gay, under the direction of Mr. Lloyd Karnes. Going to the District Speech Contest were Trula Buckminster, Marliss Cramer, John Martin, Joe Von Seggern, Andrea Zentner, and Janet Werner. Our Junior Cheerleaders were Kay Hardt and Linda Posey. Girls receiving G.A.A. awards this year were Patricia Bindrum, Marliss Cramer, Beverly Duerfeldt, Kay Hardt, Pam Hatfield, Sheryl Hooper, Mary Karst, Claudia Kreutzer, Myra Krumme, Vickey Little, Marjorie Muller, Sharon Palmer, Linda Posey, Cheryl Rogers, Brenda Rowley, Katy Schweickert, and Carol Zimmerman. On May 2, 1964, our class gave a beautiful banquet as a farewell salute to the parting Seniors. Our theme was A Night in Old Mexico. Jon Fisher was the Master of Ceremonies and John Martin, our class President, gave the welcoming speech. David Cummins gave the acceptance speech. On the banquet committee were Marliss Cramer, Lucinda Glenn, John Martin, Janice Mc-Neely, and Bill Nelson. At last, after another three months vacation, we entered school for our final year. Our sponsors this year are Mr. Leon Joy and Mr. Godwin. We elected our class officers for the last time. They were as follows: Jon Fisher, President; Merle Bachman, Vice-President; Katy Schweickert, Secretary; Trula Buckminster, Treasurer. For our Student Council we elected Marliss Cramer, Janice Kelly, and Janet Werner. This year the Senior class elected Trula Buckminster to represent us at the Hiawatha Halloween Festival as Miss Falls City. Her attendants were Linda Posey and Marliss Cramer. On April 10, 1965, the Senior Class presented its play, Harvey, under the direction of Mr. Robert Joy. The cast included Marliss Cramer, Debbie Bacakos, Dennis Moore, Cheryl Rogers, Janice Kelly, Larry Gatz, Jon Fisher, Bill Nelson, Janet Werner, John Martin, and Merle Bachman. The theme of the beautiful banquet given on May 15 by the Junior Class as a farewell present to the seniors was Camelot. This book of memories was composed by the Orange and Black Staff which included John Martin, Kay Duey, Lucinda Glenn, Jon Fisher, Ronnie Johnson, Joe Von Seggern, Terry Grush, Larry Gatz, Janice McNeely, Bill Nelson, Sharon Palmer, Linda Posey, Sally Roberts, April Rogers, Linda Saal, Janet Werner, and Andrea Zentner. We would like to express our thanks to Mr. Leon Joy for all his help and patience in making this book. Our class motto was A long life may not be good enough, BUT a good life is long enough. The class flower was the red rose and the class colors were crimson and cream. Senior day was held on May 14, our last day at Falls City High School. Baccalaureate Services were held on May 23, with Reverend Hood giving the invocation and Reverend Peck giving the address. The Commencement Exercises were held on May 27, and the speaker was Colonel E. J. White. As we look back, we think of all the good things that have happened to us. As we look ahead we picture some of the better things which we are now able to gain because of the four years we spent at Falls City High School. 21 Joe Von Seggern
